Judgment. From the eye of one to the eyes of the masses; shown from the perspective of Chamillionaire’s “Hip-Hop Police” and Oliver’s, “Singapore” Never judge a man's actions until you know his motives; this inspiring quote goes hand in hand with the way our society is now structured. In this comparison of “Hip Hop Police” by Chamillionaire and “Singapore” by Mary Oliver, it will show all the critical aspects to each poem whereas also do a comparison on the similarities and the differences between the two. To be judged or judge is human nature, but how we act upon it differs widely from a single person to the masses. The key aspects to Mary Oliver’s poem “Singapore” have to do with the person getting off the plane, the woman cleaning the toilet, and the airport itself. Without the background information of the Singapore airport we would not be able to add in much about what we think Mary is saying. Chamillionaire’s “Hip Hop Police” has to do with judgment from the masses compared to “Singapore” which is judgment from just one. The key context in this rap song are the fact that he portrays himself in the song from a first person view, the media that is supposedly judging him and the police that is a metaphor for so much more. Judgment is shown in many ways in this song and it is Chamillionaire’s goal to show us that it is out there and it sort of has the same foothold as repression and oppression did back in the day in music. “Singapore” has so much going on in it all at one time it is so hard to take it in, which is why when trying to analyze this poem it is hard not to over analyze.
