A book that rings true attracts readers because it is able to allow the reader to imagine the scenario, a book that did this to me was Tangerine by Edward Bloor. In Tangerine, the author uses realistic situations to build up the plot of the story. Early use of realism strengthens the connection between the reader and the protagonist while allowing the end to be fictional and having the reader feels as if part of the story. Literary tools that are used to help support the connection are age, hobbies, setting, and character emotions and actions. In the novel Tangerine, the age of the protagonist, 12, is the age of the targeted audience are very similar.
Dear Classmate, A Child Called “It” is one of my favorite books. I read it for the first time in my speech class for my speech about child abuse. I had heard a lot about it and how good it was so I decided to read it. Unlike other novels lying around, this book caught my attention and kept me very interested, I could not put it down. It makes you think about what some kids go through everyday. This book was a definite eye opener to abuse.
Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” is a literary writing because it is a story that entertains the reader and is metaphorical but also, possibly reality driven. The beginning of the writing leads the reader to believe that the lottery is a fun event that the community takes part in together every year; it almost seemed as though the lottery was similar to a fair event. A literary writing not only examines human existence but it also describes human life with a bit of originality. This particular literary writing examines the community in their strive to be like the traditional community of the past. Mr. Warner, who was the oldest man in town, continually made remarks stating that the lottery was not done like it originally was when he was growing
This book was one of my personal favorites because me and the main character, Anne, had a lot in common. Not only that, but everything you explained in this book, you explained with great detail, and it created imagery in my head. I had a good picture of everything that you talked about. For just about the whole story, I felt like Anne, and I felt like I was telling the story. You are a pretty good author.
The first part of planning includes setting a budget. The next step is finding a location that is large enough to accommodate a large crowd. After setting a date and securing a location, advertising should be started. When planning a book fair it would be wise to rely on many teachers and librarians for information on what author’s children are reading and what interest’s different ages have. Over all, the book fair will bring the community together and help promote children
My Writing Goals This semester, I would like to go above and beyond the knowledge I have obtained in the past years, and explore my inner creativity as a writer. Writing has been a true passion of mine for as long as I can remember. It has never ceased to amaze me the places an author can take you, the way your imagination can run wild, or the different characters you encounter just by the use of their words. Although there are many ways I can improve my writing skills, I have chosen three goals to work towards that I feel I can benefit from the most. For starters, my first goal would be to expand my vocabulary.
