Rachel Kramer Section 12 December 15, 2009 Comparison and Contrast Composition Audrey Hepburn and Anne Hathaway: classic beauties of film. Audrey Hepburn commanded any stage she walked on. Her gorgeous, classy style and look still endures to this day. Today Anne Hathaway sparkles in the same way with her many talents and glamour. Growing up miles apart on different continents and 53 years apart, Audrey Hepburn and Anne Hathaway encountered contrasting childhoods, while sharing a similar style of acting, and a natural beauty and charm, making them two of this century’s most popular movie stars. Because Audrey Hepburn and Anne Hathaway lived 53 years apart and different countries, they experienced different childhoods. Hepburn grew up in Belgium, England, and Holland during WWII and many traumatic events happened during her childhood. After Hepburn turned six, her parents divorced, mostly due to the fact that her father supported the Nazi regime. She witnessed her uncle and mother’s cousin shot in the street, and recalls, “I have memories. More than once I was at the station seeing trainloads of Jews being transported, seeing all these faces over the top of the wagon.” In contrast, Hathaway grew up in a much more protected and peaceful environment with her family. Growing up with two brothers in New Jersey, she played more like a boy, breaking many bones, and experienced a typical childhood. Even though they grew up differently, their childhoods took them on a similar path towards their future in film. Often described as elegant and charming, Hepburn and Hathaway possess a similar natural beauty inside and out.
