Courtney Hale ENG 111-D11 Essay #3 Informative report Professor Alphin 11 March 2014 They Have Eyes Everywhere The Constitution of the United States protects the freedom and privacy of American citizens. Americans have the right to privacy and to live without scrutiny from the outside world, as long as no illegal act is done. Police in the United States cannot eavesdrop on a person without a warrant from the court. Until recently, it was required that law enforcement agencies had to file a warrant before doing any surveillance. This has all changed after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Many citizens feel that privacy has been taken away as one of the American rights given by the United States Constitution. Police cars have license plate readers mounted in them which allow police to have access to millions of drivers’ records and photos of them and their cars. The government is testing systems which will be able to screen for “pre-crime” indicators such as heart rate and a person’s gaze. Every phone call, email, text message, social media communication, employment history, text message health information, student record, purchase, travel, internet search and virtually all other information of every American is being collected and stored by the American government. The police departments are using drones to spy on citizens and the military is paying for the development of drones with facial recognition software. Transit authorities have installed microphone-enabled surveillance systems on public buses across the country. The NSA is tapping content and metadata of all digital communications. All of this information is collected from every American and stored every day to possibly be used at a later time for any reason the government sees
