In the book entitled Just Another Dead Indian A Serial Killer and Canada’s Indifference, Goulding reveals the deep seated inequality that exists in the Canadian Criminal Justice System, the media, and the public (Goulding, 2001). To support his claims Goulding uses one of Canada’s most horrific crimes the serial killings of John Martin Crawford. Those who are aware of John Crawford’s terrible deeds would agree that his case belongs in the league of Clifford Olsen, Paul Bernardo, Marcello Palma, and other infamous serial killers. However, the amount of publicity and media attention John Martin Crawford’s trial received paralleled that of a small town fair (Goulding, 2001). His aggressive sexual behaviour which resulted in the deaths of Eva Taysup, Shelley Napope, and Calinda Waterhen were shunned by the public and regarded as mildly newsworthy by the media (Goulding, pg 211).
Alienation is an emotional factor that could have extreme negative effects, on top of alienation the government does not protect them with the same human rights given to citizens of the nation. Immigrants have multiple acts such as the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Universal Declaration of Human Rights on their side but many governments do not enforce them. Citizenship includes rights, responsibilities and freedoms, such as in Canada The charter of Rights and Freedoms protects all individuals and enforces the rule of law. The charter should apply to all
When things have begun are they able to come to stop? Many people in this world wonder if racism will ever stop. According to the “Historical Timeline of Racism in Canada,” racism began in 1698 and has been going on ever since then. Many people believe that racism has existed since people started to notice differences between themselves and others around them. Some people don’t know the meaning of racism because it means something different to each and every individual.
Many countries, like Germany, convict such horrendous, ill-informed, and boorish media and its producers; such as the case of Ernst Zundel, who was convicted for hosting radio and television shows, publishing books and pamphlets, and managing a web site on Holocaust-denial (Lasson 228). Even the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Boris Tarasyuk, “condemned the largest private Ukrainian university, the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management (MAUP) for promoting anti-Semitism and Holocaust-denial” (Lasson 228). Yet The United States “remains the lone
Also, there is a significant relationship between multiculturalism and anti-racism. Playing the idea of racism into the main concept, the official Canadian policy of multiculturalism almost appears as a lie. Thus, with respect to multiculturalism, I disagree with the statement that Canada presents a mosaic image and Canadians respond positively to nation building in an increasingly diverse populated society. Multiculturalism: fact or ideology? (Fleras & Elliott, 1993) This is a very important issue to be considered when viewing the truth about Canada’s multicultural title.
Despite the recent advent in human rights laws and practices in Canada, our society continues to suffer from negative effects of racism and discrimination. Canada has a legacy of racism whose lingering effects are still felt by racialized minorities. My primary focus, using a human rights perspective, is to explore the relationship between immigration and racism in Canadian society and how racism becomes the instrument for human rights violations. Immigrants are one of the groups that often experience human rights violations in various forms. In order to approach the issue of racism and how it violates the rights of immigrants, we first need to understand the human rights framework with which we are able to interpret discriminatory behaviour.
The Chinese have contributed countless of efforts to build one of most important asset of the country, the Canadian Pacific Railways. The Chinese were mistreated by the Canadian government in many ways such as wages, basic needs, and job protections. Even after when the railway was completed, the Canadian government continues to impose further more segregation onto the Chinese from the general society. Actions like gradually incremented head taxes and elimination of their right to vote are things that the government has done. For these actions, Canada discriminated its own
Many Arabs are still being judged from an event that happened almost eleven years ago. Hate crimes against Arabs became increasingly common soon after the September 11th attacks. In Chicago alone, there were over 100 hate crimes reported only three months later. Even more frightening, just seven days later there were 645 hate crime incidents

They not only face physical harm but also a harsh stigmatism generated by the larger population. Along with fear and rejection, abuse in all forms and cruel judgement, this stigmatism instigates and encourages further drug use and weighs heavily on the users identity. Due to the Canadian Governments conditional allowance, a facility for intravenous drug users was opened in 2003 on the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. Insite is a supervised safer injection site where addicts can go and inject previously purchased drugs with clean
