Woojun Kim English 02/13/12 Similarity of North Korea and Animal Farm The Novel Animal Farm by George Orwell shows animal rebel against human and dominating the farm by one greedy animal. After rebellion, instead of human, pigs rule the animal farm. At first, animal farm is going to flourish, but greedy pigs finally ruined whole farm life. Minority’s greed ruined majority’s dream. When I finished the book, I thought this phenomenon is similar to modern communism country North Korea.

Introduction Throughout most of history, Korea was one country with a good culture. In the 1940’s, when Korea was controlled by Japan, World War II broke out. Korea was then divided into two parts – the north and the south. The north was controlled by communist Russian forces and the south was controlled by American troops. In 1950, the Korean War began between the two sides.
The Cold War lasted for around 46 years, from the year 1945 to 1991. After the devastation of the Second World War came to an end, representatives from the United Kingdom, United States, and Soviet Union held the Yalta Conference to discuss Europe’s reorganization. Winston Churcill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Josef Stalin represented their respective countries. Churchill and Roosevelt also had the underlying fear that tension with the Soviet Union would arise during the post-war rehabilitation. Both the United States and United Kingdom decided to settle on an agreement with Stalin.
These are all very mysterious. Right after Kim Jong-II’s death, his son Kim Jong Un who was only 28, had been announced the ‘Great Successor’ by North Korea’s ruling Worker’s Party, This again let people see the high degree of authoritarian in North Korea, or the ‘Kim family’. This also leads to the doubt that what people’s life is like under this high authoritarian. I have been to South Korea five years ago, and that was the first time I started being curious about North Korea. We visited a museum where can see the military demarcation line between South and North Korea, and we were also able to see some part of North Korea using telescope.
Marshall was the wartime chief of staff, and then in 1947 he became secretary of state. George Kennan, who was Marshall’s Head of his newly created Policy Planning Staff, was a career Foreign Service officer and a Soviet Union expert. In a crucial telegram, he proposed that containment become the basic strategy of the U.S throughout the Cold War. Containment was a patient but firm and vigilant containment of Russian expansive tendencies. This policy would not lead to an instant victory but would smooth things out in the long run.
The Wars, by Timothy Finley, has many scenes where animals are very significant to Robert Ross. Whether they are a spirit guide, someone to talk to, or foreshadowing a tragedy, all the animals played a significant role. Throughout the novel, The Wars, Robert has a strong connection with animals. He has this connection because they listen to his problems, without contradiction or opinion, compared to men who are insane. Because Robert has a strong connection with animals, he was unable to save the humans in the war, so he saves the animals from death.
Senate, due to ill health; John Foster Dulles[->21] was appointed July 7, 1949, to temporarily fill Wagner’s spot. He died in New York City, where he was buried in Calvary Cemetery[->22], Queens[->23], New York City[->24]. His son Robert F. Wagner, Jr.[->25] was Mayor of New York City[->26] from 1954 to 1965, taking steps to follow in his father’s image. Recently, the United States Senate rewarded Senator Wagner the honor of voting to add his portrait to a very select collection[->27] in the Senate Reception Room[->28]. This honor shows that Mr. Wagner had a huge impact on American history and will be forever
English IV – P August 25, 2010 Character Analysis: Animal Farm In George Orwell’s novella Animal Farm, the author’s central characters shape the plot and represent human nature in society in the simplistic version in a farm on the countryside of England. One of the leaders in the farm, Snowball, depicts an idealistic, enthusiastic ruler who tries to create an equal, peaceful society controlled by animals. After the members of the English farm society successfully overthrow the treacherous human farmer, two pigs stand out as the leaders of the group. Snowball and Napoleon look over the well being of the animals and the sustainability of the ranch, but the pigs soon disagree with each other on most topics concerning the farm. The author describes Snowball as “a more vivacious pig” that is “quicker in speech and more inventive” than Napoleon, meaning that Snowball has great speaking skills that help him win the attention and loyalty to his fellow animals and exhibits innovative ideas that may help the farm both economically and socially (Orwell 12).
Syngman Rhee, who had spent some years exiled in America, became the president of South Korea in 1948, while Kim Il Sung, having fought for the Russian red army during the war became leader of the People’s Democratic Republic (Communist) in North Korea. I intend to outline the causes and contributing factors that eventually led to the Korean War. An underlying factor in this conflict are the two very contrasting political systems in North Korea, The communist North led by Kim Il sung had links with fellow Communist nations such as China and the USSR; In April 1950, Kim Il Sung actually visited Moscow and by May and June Military supplies were being sent to north Korea including 150 T-34 Tanks. Similarly China did not want to have an American influenced democratic country bordering its frontiers so they too were always likely to support Kim Il Sung and the North Koreans. In The South Syngman Rhee's supposedly democratic government was likely to gain American support due to the fear of the spread of communism sometimes referred to as the "Domino Theory" However just as the Soviet government had only given limited support to Kim Il Sung as they feared the potential of a direct conflict with American troops, the USA did not provide an air force for the South Koreans as they too did not want Syngman Rhee to abuse his advantageous
