Sixty of Rameau’s 65 harpsichord pieces were written by 1728, with a final group appearing in 1741. Published in 1706, 1724 and around the year 1728, these collections, with the final collection of 1741, consist of genre pieces and dances in the established tradition of French keyboard music. Rameau's music, so graceful and attractive, completely contradicts the man's public image and what we know of his character as described. Throughout his life, music was his consuming passion. It occupied his entire thinking; Philippe Beaussant calls him a monomaniac.
In this essay I will be comparing “Love Me Do” – (1962) – by The Beatles with “Breathe” – (1972) – by Pink Floyd, displaying the use of melody and harmony used in each song in contrast with one another. The instrumentation varies significantly between both songs - and indeed between both bands altogether – which has a direct effect on the harmonies and melodic devices that could be used in each song because of the different ranges in the specific instruments. Examples of this in “Love Me Do” is John Lennon’s use of a chromatic harmonica, which is capable of playing twelve notes of the Western Chromatic scale, and Lennon played the harmonica introduction to this song in diatonic C; however in “Breathe” (Slide Guitar and Organ) the instrumentation lends itself to new time signatures and utilises the technical advances in recording at that time. Pink Floyd’s music was (is) far more elaborate than that of The Beatles, as the structure of the chorus suggests that music is the only release from daily noise and day-to-day life. The tempo is quite slow (which is typical of Pink Floyd) in “Breathe” in common time (4/4) with the first four lines of music being based on the progression Em9 – A, and the last four lines of the song being based on the more vivid chord progression CMaj7 – Bm – F – G – Dm7 .
Fifth Symphony The Fifth Symphony is one of the major symphonies composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Premiered in 1808, it featured the whole orchestra. The first movement is in C minor, four chords are thrust forward in monophonic texture to open the work. The work is built upon a short motive which repeats throughout the piece with slight variation each time, creating a cyclical structure to the entire symphony. The four note motive repeats in the first theme constantly repeated with variation in rhythm, instrumentation, and dynamic level.
He named these to pieces the Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue. They were appropriately named for the style that they were written. These two songs are considered to be some of Ellington's most ambitious efforts and when he first wrote them they were beyond the capabilities of his band. It took until 1957 for the full potential of the songs to be realized. This was one of Ellington's many pieces written with very little room for improvisation and it was very demanding, structurally and harmonically.
Each Greek mode can be played in different keys, so therefore, there are twelve versions of each mode and each are used in the many common forms of Jazz music and Jazz improvisation Each mode however uses different tonic notes. The Ionian mode(also known as the Major scale) consists of the all 7 notes with no sharps or flats. The Dorian mode, (which is the most used mode in jazz) consist of a minor 3rd and a minor 7th which makes for a minor sounding scale. The Phrygian mode is strictly minor. This scale is used most often in Spanish Flamenco music.
Pop production techniques such as the use of orchestral string sections, charted horn sections, and carefully arranged background vocals were also used. Complex arrangements and elaborate, melismatic vocal riffs were avoided. Motown producers believed steadfastly in the " KISS principle" (keep it simple, stupid). The Motown production process has been described as factory-like. The Hitsville studios remained open and active 22 hours a day, and artists would often go on tour for weeks, come back to Detroit to record as many songs as possible, and then promptly go on tour again. Berry Gordy held quality control meetings every Friday morning, and used veto power to ensure that only the very best material and performances would be released.
Moonlight Sonata potray’s a lot of emotions that can be related to relaxing music or soulful music. I say this because this piece is the kind of music you’ll play in a room full of inpatient guest’s . A day whereas you have a bunch of plans and your so stressed that the only thing to catch your attention is Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. The way Valentina Lisitsa plays is reminded by how a deaf man (Beethoven) can have a whole room listen to
The flute is a woodwind instrument that serves as a soprano voice in many bands, orchestras, and woodwind groups. The flute is considered a woodwind instrument event though most modern day flutes are made of metal. Years ago flutes were made of wood. They were played in countries such as ancient Egypt, China, and Greece. In the mid 1700s they became very popular in Europe.
