AP Human Geography

Before taking the course Earth Affecting People, I had some knowledge on spatial perspectives. This knowledge came from an AP Human Geography course I took my senior year of high school. That course however dealt with studying the world as it pertains to human influence such as communities and culture. My current course is more focused on physical geography “which encompasses the processes and features that make up Earth, including human activities where they interfere with the environment” (Fund). This term is strange to me. It has been a difficult process attempting to put a definition on this word. It is related to the Geographic Information System or GIS which “lets us visualize, question, analyze, interpret, and understand data...that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts” (What Is). With this said, spatial process may be used in maps using things such as the U.S. Public Land Survey System as well as the other three also found (Metes-and-Bounds, Longlot Survey and Landgrants). Image 6: What the Public Land Survey System looks like from the larger scale. A much more organized approach to giving land than the other processes. Spatial process can be the way these maps and charts created by the GIS are interpreted and used around the world. These three terms are vital in order for one to have a better understanding of physical geography and the importance of understanding Earth’s landscape. Aside from the cultural aspects of human geography and how humans affect the earth, physical geography (especially this course) is essential to understanding the opposite. How does the earth affect humans and the way they live and have lived throughout history and across the different continents? Work Cited Adebola, Simon. "Healthcare « I Initiative."
