In the article Writing Drafts by Richard Marius, he describes his writing processes. He explains some ideas and the way he writes his papers. He also explains how he writes his first, second, and thirds drafts. The way he writes his drafts are different compared to how I write mine. By comparing our writing processes from the first, second, and third drafts, differences and similarities can be shown. I will compare my writing process to his by using an essay that I wrote in an English class as an example. In our first draft Marius and I do have some similarities when we make an outline. However we are different when we start writing our draft. First, Marius begins by writing an outline including his main points without worrying about the order of importance. He makes a list studies it and then possibly makes another list. He then writes for an hour straight and writes quickly. He usually doesn’t worry about organization, grammar, or spelling. He sticks to his ideas and keeps going but, he is also open to new ideas. Next, Marius prints print out the draft and then find a place to read it but he doesn’t make any corrections. What he does instead is goes to sleep so that he “may discover new ideas in the morning” (pg. 92, Marius). Like Marius who makes an outline so do I. For example when I did my essay in English 103B where I had to include two concepts from a book, I made an outline in that section including some of the possible concepts. I also did this where I could throughout the essay. However, I didn’t sit down and write for an hour like Marius. Instead, I took my time and I wrote on line paper to begin my first draft. I also don’t worry about grammar, organization or spelling. The next difference is that I didn’t read my paper before I go to sleep. I had a classmate who made corrections to my first draft. In the second draft, Marius and I are different
