There are many different types of communication styles each person has a unique personality and communication style which plays a basic role in their personality perspectives. In the article “but what do you mean?” by Deborah Tannen the author argues that there is no right or wrong way to talk. Whereas in the article “Doublespeak” by William Lutz he argues that communication is carefully designed and constructed to mislead and corrupt our thoughts. However I agree with Tanner because men and women talk differently. One of the most common reasons is that your communication style is different than the other person’s communication style.
He tries to get people’s attention to think about how doublespeak will disturb their lives. Then, people will learn how to recognize this language and avoid being misled and confused by
The content in the work is imperative to the messages it communicates. “Take the N-word out of ‘Huckleberry Finn’ and is it still ‘Huckleberry Finn’? Probably not, after all it is a book narrated in Huck’s voice.” writes journalist Delia Lloyd about the subject. The individual ideas in the book can’t be as easily conveyed in ‘politically correct’ language. When Huck says “Jim had an uncommon level head for a nigger” the message he is conveying to the reader will be distorted if you alter what Twain originally wrote; the sentiment will not have been as accurately communicated.
The composer is communicating his belief that while human beings claim to be educated, just and accepting, we can sometimes be quite the opposite. The firm belief in what is considered to be socially acceptable has led to numerous misconceptions and stereotypes being created, simply to class someone with a label, rather than with a name or any other personifying feature. It is this human ability to judge that Van Allsburg is attempting to break down by showing through the use of metaphor, the corrupt foundations that are the basis for forming opinions. The Widow’s Broom is a book directed at children, but the messages it communicates, though indirectly, are incredibly powerful and very relevant to society. The responder views society from a number of different
These opinions have, however, changed. The more recent censors are still concerned about the impressionable youth, but not that they will be taught to spit, but they will be taught to use derogatory terms to refer to their peers. Williams does acknowledge the hurt that the word can cause, even though it was a common term used at the time of the book’s publication. Another of Williams’ points was on Twains racial ambiguity. “Whether of not Twain was a racist is a moot point that need not be addressed” (98).
My texts both discuss grammar, but they are different because they have conflicting opinions on their definition of proper grammar. These definitions of the role that grammatical roles play in good writing differ because the rhetors of each text are targeting different audiences with different exigences. Audience The audiences that are targeted in these two texts are very different; the article “Why you need good grammar” by Michael Kwan is targeted towards a more traditional and conservative audience because throughout the text he emphasizes that proper grammar is necessary in all situations, and shows his repugnance to modern day bloggers and internet users for not using correct grammar on the web. Kwan also writes that he thinks that all the new ways of communicating and sharing your opinion through the web and other new technology is ruining grammar, and stresses that we should go back to traditional proper grammar. The cartoon in the Wall Street Journal is targeted towards a younger, open-minded, and more liberal audience as it shows a picture of modern day rock and roll
When the topic of writing is discussed, there are many different thoughts and feelings that arise within a discussion. Some of the thoughts that may arise include the following: what is writing, should writing be used as punishment, do we all construct horrible first drafts, and is writing really that difficult? These various topics are talked about in the following essays entitled, “Writing Is Not a Skill” by Stanley Aronowitz, “I Won’t Use Writing as Punishment” by Roy Peter Clark, “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott, and “Bonehead Writing” by Craig Vetter. Within each essay the author displays to readers his or her beliefs of how writing should be. Writing can be considered both an art form, as well as a skill.
This belief is not shared by most Americans, but is shared by many Iranians as away of life and last resort mean. Not a way to oppress womes. Though Americans may not agree with it they must learn to respect or at least try to understand the culture of the Iranian people. Some Iranian people believe that the government of America is trying to destroy their religion. What these Iranian have to understand is that their media is corrupting information, because America’s government tries its best to respect the religion of other people; after all it was found based on the idea.
Non-verbal communication can help but be careful when using hand gestures as they may be the same in a lot of cultures but may be very offensive in another always research. Distressing situations are a part of life we can not always avoid them such as the death of a family member or friend, but we can try and help the person through the distressing time by showing that you are there if required if they would like to talk or that you are able to get somebody else to talk to like another colleague, friend or relative, but without putting pressure on the person as this could cause more distress or agitation. Be aware of your own body language in these circumstances and approach them in a calm, open and non threatening manor make eye contact and show you are willing to
(301.1) Understand the principles of developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults. 1.3 Explain how different social, professional and cultural contexts may affect relationships and the way people communicate. Different social, professional and cultural contexts may affect relationships and the way people communicate due to a lack of understanding of one another’s background and culture. There are some behaviour’s that may be perceived differently by different people, for example the way a person dresses may be accepted by one culture but not by another, therefore offending them and increasing breakdown of a relationship When communicating with others you need to consider the way in which you are working. Sometimes you need to adapt the way you communicate in different situations.
