Only 18 percent of the public said "leaders should not pay attention to public opinion polls because this will distract them from deciding what they think is right." When the public was asked whether they think that "elections are the only time when the views of the people should have influence, or that also between elections leaders should consider the views of the people as they make decisions," an extraordinary 94 percent say that government leaders should pay attention to the views of the public between elections. Closely related to the dissatisfaction with the degree of government responsiveness to the public is the widespread perception that decisions are not being made in the public's best interest. When the public was asked, “Would you say that this country is run by a few big interests looking out for themselves, or that it is run for the benefit of all the
The American Dream In the article Inequality and the American Dream published in the Economist, the author Paul Krugman proposes to solve the disparity in our economic system by increasing taxes on the wealthy. The real reason for this disparity is because of our economic system. Our government is based on capitalism that allows economic freedom in doing business without government control. The American dream shells from this system that promises personal gain and prosperity to those who work hard. This is encouraged further by our selfish human nature to have great things for ourselves.
The two main political parties in the United States, the Democratic and Republican parties, have opposing social, economic, and political views. Because of the opposition, it is possible for different views to be enacted into governmental matters. It is impossible for all people to agree in a democratic nation, and because of this the institutionalization of political parties allows for different views to be heard and for change to occur in order to satisfy the people. If one party’s views were the only opinions heard in the government, the government would in turn only have one source of power and therefore be despotic. The institutionalization of political parties avoids despotism.
NOTHING! Mike Patillo of the CEMC, the Change in Election Management Commission said that the elections should be managed by the federal government and no the state, but last I recalled that would mean communism, we’re a democracy, and with democracy comes great bureaucratic madness and waiting lines, communism would just make us faster in terms of electing our leader, and what else? Everyone on the same level, no more richest 10%, medical attention given to all for practically nothing , what else? Oh Yeah! No more freedom, it used to be virtually impossible to get out of the USSR, the country owned you; no more freedom?
Being an Agnostic, I believe that every religious institution should be treated the same as any other organization in America and have to pay taxes. In such bad economic times such as these it could help reduce our national deficit and help heal our economy. On top of that, it would help preserve the “separation of church and state”, a term that has been used by the Supreme Court numerous times by not forcing Americans to support religion, which we basically have been doing by allowing them to remain tax-free. Not only is it a passive aggressive way to push religion on citizens, but it helps to create a money machine out of religion, which in turn is used to influence politicians through the use of lobbyists. I believe these reasons alone should find tax exemptions for
Obviously in the world of politics no money can be willingly donated without the expectation of something in return. This is usually in the form of somewhat influencing the legislative and executive branches of government to benefit their cause. The financial support significantly manipulates the way politicians vote on measures; they tend to listen to campaign funders and lobbyists above anyone else, passing laws which benefit only a small population of people whilst simultaneously impairing the rest of the nation. The lack of transparency with regards to bundlers ignites the speculation on corruption as the Federal Election Commission does not require campaigns to disclose the names of bundlers unless they are registered lobbyists. This raises suspicions as bundlers who accumulate a lot of money for candidates are more likely to receive dubious favors, such as government grants, loans or lucrative
A problem that this form of government can face is that different branches of the government can sometimes receive elected officials that have agendas on his/her list. This can present a problem, because the elected official, or branch, can prevent certain bills or decisions from taking place. For example, congress will sometimes put unnecessary items in bills, that the president does not think is necessary, but since the president needs that particular issue handled, does not veto the whole bill. This is why there are advocates that push for the president to be given the power to call for a line-item
He states many times that profits/supply & demand are leading causes for what makes too high for lower class people to afford. If companies didn’t try to make such a high profit then could the poor afford what they need? This is unfair and unjust because Lewis is saying the rich should reap the benefits of a thriving and successful business.
Meanwhile, the richest Americans continue to expand their wealth. The middle class in this country is dying, while the millionaires and billionaires prosper. More and more people are slipping into poverty, while many Republicans oppose tax hikes for the “job creators”. Paine also describes America as a place free of conflict, and as place where “every difficulty retires and all the parts are brought into cordial unison.” This not only does not hold true today, but it contradicts one of the fundamental characteristics of America: the fact that as Americans we are entitled to disagree with each other and argue endlessly about any given subject. Argument and disagreement are huge part of what makes his country great.
A simple example of this is the concept of that evil, deceptive tax cut. That same party will tell you that the only way to make money from taxes is to raise them until every rich patron of this country is paying an arm and a leg just to stay alive. Not only does this punish the rich for being rich, it is a form of socialism though it's redistribution of money in an attempt to reward the idle for doing nothing, and punish the busy for endeavoring to make money. Doesn't make much sense does
