Why The United States Should Try To Legalize Drugs

Dealing with Americans and drugs is one of the many harsh problems we face in society. As a result many countries planned policies and act organizations to try to control drug policy. For example, the United States of America has prepared the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). According to the ONDCP, “The Administration’s National Drug Control Strategy promotes public safety y strengthening coordination among law enforcement professionals and supporting initiatives that work to break the cycle of drug use, crime, incarceration, and re-arrest… drug trafficking organizations and associated criminal groups pose a persistent and dangerous threat to the communities across the United State…” Why is the United States so harsh on drug use? Drugs will always be used and I believe there is absolutely no way to control it. Alcohol and tobacco kills hundreds everyday so why don’t we illegalize them? If drug uses could grow their own weed, for example, it wouldn’t be a gateway drug therefore no black market. I would suggest selling weed in smoke shops, or liquor stores so the tax profits would increase at the same time. Legalization would get rid of some problems but yes I would also agree it would cause some as well. There would be a spike in the drug use because of the big ‘legalization hype’ but eventually it would go down. The best way I believe to reform this is put the government in change of selling them or assigning places to sell them, like the example I used in the liquor stores. I would want the profits to go towards preventing addiction drug centers. I would also end mandatory minimum sentences for minor non-violent drug offenses, while decriminalizing marijuana.
