William Jefferson Clinton or as he is more commonly known, Bill Clinton was the 42nd President of the United States of America. He was born William Jefferson Blythe III in Hope, Arkansas to Virginia Dell Cassidy and William Blythe, Jr. His biological father was a traveling salesman who died in an auto accident three months before his birth. After completing Nursing school Clinton’s mother married Roger Clinton an automobile dealer. Although he assumed use of his stepfather’s surname, it was not until the age of 14 that he formally adopted the surname Clinton as a gesture toward his stepfather. Bill Clinton served in the role of President from 1993-2001. Prior to his presidency, he was Governor of the state of Arkansas. Bill Clinton took office at the end of the Cold War. In a lame-duck session after the elections in 1998, Clinton became only the second U.S. president to be impeached; the first was Andrew Johnson. President Clinton finished out his term after being acquitted of any charges. Does holding public office make a good leader? The answer as shown by history is a resounding no, a good leader is one who is motivational, resilient, decisive, ethical and willing to nurture emerging talent. A good leader is one who may have some “dirt” in his/her record but acknowledges his imperfections and continues for the betterment of his organization or mission. Bill Clinton in the opinion of this writer has had numerous personal discretions that he that was intended for the attempted to differentiate from his role as leader of the United States of America. Charisma is also a trait of an effective leader. A charismatic leader can draw others to himself and mission by employing empathy and respect for his colleagues despite their possible differences.
