A brief autobiography of the Goodwin’s family roots where it all starts with my grandmother Jennie V. Goodwin and my papa Jacob D. Goodwin but everyone called him Sonny boy. Papa was born on March 4, 1925 and granny was born Oct.17, 1927 in Plain Dealing, La. Later on in their lives they moved to a small town called Benson, La was they was also married at in the early 1940s. They had three boys and two daughters after marriage. My grandparents were known for so many things in their town they even made street names after them such as Jennie Loop and Goodwin Loop.
Mary Phagan was born on June 1, 1900 to John and Frances Phagan in Marietta, Georgia. Mary’s father died when she was very young. As a result, her mother remarried J.W. Coleman. Her wages were $1.20 per hour which she went to collect from Mr. Frank on the day of the murder(Pou, Charles).

Gulick was born on December 4, 1865 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father Luther Halsey Gulick and his mother Louisa Lewis Gulick were both Congregationalist missionaries and had seven children and Luther was the fifth child born. As a child, young Luther spent the first fifteen years of his life moving from Hawaii to Spain, Italy, and Japan. In 1880 he finally returned to the United States and in 1882 he enrolled in the preparatory department of Oberlin College.
Ralph Bunche Ralph Johnson Bunche was born August 7, 1904 in Detroit, Michigan. His father, Fred, and mother, Olive, worked very hard to provide for their family. Bunche and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico when he was ten years old in hope that his parents’ deteriorating health would improve. However, his parents died soon after. He then moved with his grandmother and two sisters to Los Angeles.
In 1967 Geisel’s wife, Helen Palmer, dies after forty years together. By this point in Geisel’s life, he has written many books, served in World War I,and changed his penname to Dr. Seuss (Timeline). One year later, he married Audrey Stone Dimond, a life long friend of his and his former wife’s (Timeline). After they married, Audrey and Theodor Geisel traveled to many places all around the world (Schulman p. 6). March 2, 1981 is declared Dr. Seuss Day in honor to Theodor Geisel and all his published works.
Apgar was born in Westfield, New Jersey, on June 7, 1909, She was the youngest of the three children Her early interest in science and medicine may have resulted from witnessing her eldest brother passing due to tuberculosis as well as her other brother’s struggle with chronic childhood ilnesss. She graduated from Westfield High School in 1925 and entered Mount Holyoke College the same year. There she majored in zoology and supported herself with a number of part-time jobs.
