WHAT KIND OF LEARNER AM I? Learning is a natural process, and continues throughout your life. There are many ways in which one can gain knowledge and since there are so many different ways of learning we tend to choose a new way of learning if it is easier. In this essay, I will explain the different ways of learning, relating them to the VAK model, Kolb’s learning theory, Independent/Dependent learning and preferred learning styles. I have realised through my past experiences that I’m a visual learner, an accommodator, an independent learner and an individual learner. My aim is to prove this in this essay. Firstly, I would like to begin with the VAK model which includes the Visual, Auditorial and Kinaesthetic type of learning. A visual learner is one who can understand better with the help of visual images or videos. I can say that I am a visual learner because I prefer learning with the help of images and videos as it makes the topic easier to understand. I have noticed over the years that when I listen to a lecture I understand less but when I see a graph it gives me a clear idea of the topic.…show more content…
These four types were: The Diverger, The Converger, The Assimilator and The Accommodator. An accommodator is one who is more action-orientated. They learn from hands-on experience, they are able to adapt easily and like to improvise on everything. While writing this essay I realised that I am an accommodator because I wrote the essay with whatever I had in my mind and later on I improvised on it. I started the task right away without thinking about what exactly I was going to write. I believe, in order to become a better learner I should observe and analyse the situation, stay motivated and work with a student who has an assimilative style of
