Conflict of interest is when an advocate may have personal dealings with the party, which can tip –the scale creating an unequal balance during mediation. Another issue that arises that causes conflict of interest is if the mediator or advocate has strong beliefs that are different from that of the parties. If this is the case, these can cause an unfair advantage for the opposing party. 3. Define Neutrality.
Faced with situations that force change, many individuals explore a side to themselves that they didn’t know existed prior to the conflict. Individuals may find that good qualities shine through in times of conflict and others demonstrate that in times of conflict, circumstances are harsh and act accordingly, demonstrating negativity. Regardless of how individuals respond to conflict, the response in which individuals demonstrate are extraordinary and whether individuals respond positively or negatively, remarkable courage, resilience and leadership is shown in the beliefs of individuals. ! !
Caesar Tronolone Critical Lens Power is strength or knowledge which can be fearful if used incorrectly. “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely” was once stated by Lord Acton. People in a position of power often become egotistical which affects their actions and causes corruption. I concur with the statement of Lord Acton listed above and it can be proven accurate using the examples of conflict and characterization from William Golding’s novel Lord of The Flies. The correlation between power and conflict is often used in literature and especially in novels.
In every work of literature, there is one character, which always does wrong, which in some way, shape, or form comes back around to get them. The quote “Whosoever does wrong, wrongs himself.” by Marcus Aureluis best relates to “Catcher in the Rye” by JD Salinger and “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller. This quote means when someone does wrong, it will come back around and strongly impact their life, and even the lives of others. It is an agreeable quote. It is relevant and true.
Of Mice and Men George and Lenny’s relationship can be described in many ways. From one perspective, one may have said that George was a manipulative character in the story. From another point of view, he could have been described as a protective character. It’s hard to choose one side to stand on when it comes to this argument since there are many instances where George proves both sides correct. George may sometimes come off as the manipulative character in this relationship because of certain attitudes that he exudes during particular events.
Selfperception affects an individual’s self-efficacy skills, therefore affecting how an individual will communicate their experiences. While self-perception is an important trait to take into consideration when dealing with self-reporting, it does however, as mentioned, affect the validity of the results due to individuals underreporting and over reporting their actions. Comparisons of Limitations All three articles discussed the limitation of self-reporting, more so in Article 1. While self-reporting is indeed a valuable asset, self-reporting at times is affected due to individuals underreporting their behavior, as well as over reporting it (Hauge et al., 2009). Underreporting occurs due to individuals being dishonest regarding their behavior, therefore causing an error in the research done.
Encountering Conflict SAC Prompt: ‘Conflict brings out unexpected qualities in people’. Although conflict is so often associated with difficulty and suffering, it is clear that through these debacles and controversy that it brings out unexpected and even surprising qualities in people. In The Crucible written by Arthur Miller, Arthur uses three very good characters to demonstrate and manifest the conflict in the story, and to show the readers how underlying qualities are evident in people. John Proctor, a man of pride and dignity, is what we think off him. But it is only through all the turmoil and conflict that we actually realise that he has many unforeseen traits.
Order and chaos is a central theme in this novel. It reveals that the instinct to go against your good morals can happen when absolutely necessary but sometimes it can go too far. Golding shows this through Jack and
Jamiel Pittman Professor Williams English 111 FE 30 October 2013 In this paper I will draw the parallels of good villains and bad villains. Often we characterize the “bad guys” as characters whom are not liked and not appreciated. However they are more likely to be more interesting than the heroes or “good guys”. I believe “bad guys” make stories more intriguing for a bunch of reasons. The idea of incorporating a fictitious character in a story that goes to great lengths to be “destructive” is always suspenseful.
From the Big Bang to the Garden of Eden to the circumstances of our own births, we yearn to travel back to that distant time when everything was new and full of promise. Perhaps then, we tell ourselves, we can start to make sense of the convoluted mess we are in today. But beginnings are rarely as clear-cut as we would like them to be. Take, for example, the event that most Americans associate with the start of the United States: the voyage of the Mayflower.” (Nathaniel Philbrick). Every year late in November, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving; a holiday which one is thankful for the house they live in, clothes on their back, food on their plate and family who love them dearly.
