What is Ferlinghetti trying to achieve in 'Two Scavengers in a Truck, Two Beautiful People in a Mercedes

In the poem "Two Scavengers..." the poet Ferlinghetti uses various language, techniques and sentence structure to create effects on the reader. I believe the poet is trying to show the differences between the lives of the rich and the lives of the poor, whilst also showing that America, which is meant to be a rich and just country is not as excellent as it appears to be. Many readers can immediately see the differences in the culture between the two classes by simply looking at the title. From the word "Scavengers", we assume that these bin men are unstylish, foul-smelling and in poverty. One reason for this is because when we think of a scavenger, some readers would instantly think of tramps, who forage through people's bins and beg on the street just to get the necessities they need. However, if we look deeper into the poem, some readers could possibly find goods points about being a scavenger. Another scavenger people could maybe consider is the vulture, a natural scavenger of the animal kingdom which feasts on the remains of dead, rotting animals. This function is almost identical to the bin men of our race, for without them doing their job our streets would be filled with the foul smell of rubbish cluttering our streets. But just below "Scavengers" the title reads "Beautiful People", which I believe Ferlinghetti has done to show the difference between the two characters. Just like with the scavengers, we consider them to be smart, well presented and it would seem like their lives are perfect. We can also tell form the title that they are financially stable, because we associate a Mercedes as being expensive. Just by the word "Beautiful" we can see how different each of the people's lives are. By this we could feel pity for the scavengers that the beautiful people have everything they could want and the scavengers have almost nothing. Another factor
