Same Sex Marriage Same sex marriage has been an issue in the United States for a very long time now, and will be a problem for years to come. In the United States Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York and the District of Columbia issues marriage licenses to same sex couples. President Obama once said he opposes same sex marriage as a Christian, but is a “fierce advocate of equality” for gay men and lesbians. Every individual has a different view on same sex marriage, whether it’s against or for, everyone should be able to voice their opinion, and in two articles authors Lou Dematteis and Edith M. Humphrey he discusses his beliefs against gay marriage. He strongly believes that in marriage and every marriage the opposite sex together as one is a natural relation unlike same sex couples. He says that same sex activists are trying to grant homosexual couples and marital status, and are not only causing a problem in America, but within churches as well. Humphrey specifically states, “For the defense of marriage in both civil society and church, Christians must look to-and guard-the deep theological foundations of marriage,” he strongly believes he has to protect the tradition of marriage. He believes that theological foundations are already under attack, and states that on June 3, a church in Canada made the decision to bless same sex unions in formal ceremonies. He believes homoerotic activity is against God, along with murder. Edith M. Humphrey, they discuss facts and their beliefs on gay marriage. Dematteis goes more into depth about the issues in states, Politically, Presidential, Religion, and Demographics on same sex marriage, whereas Humphrey discusses more about the Religion view of same sex marriage. He strongly believes Religion depicts the view on same sex marriage, he believes we should believe what god believes, and what god believes is marriage is the love and commitment between two people of the opposite sex. Dematteis has views from all different perspectives, and he believes no one should judge anyone based on what gender he or she loves. He discusses more about what the people in America think in their States about same sex marriage. He talks about facts, statistics, and polls, such as the New York Times poll which was conducted that 40 percent of respondents supported same sex marriage, 23 percent supported civil unions for gay couples, and 31 percent did not support gay couples. Dematteis had twice as much information as did Humphrey as well much more of other people’s views, and I believe it is very important to show the views of different people not just your
