Paper 6 Final If I been asked or to give advice a new government on what constitutes good government first I would express the importance of “democracy,” Throughout this essay will explain the principles should which constitutes a standard of good government. For instance, I’ll further present and provide the 6 major characteristics of Good governance. Those six major characteristics are as followed, First it is participation, second, consensus oriented, third, accountable, fourth, transparent, fifth, responsive, sixth, effective and finally, efficient. First, Participation by both men and women is a key foundation of good governance. For example, participation could be either direct or through legitimate intermediate institutions or representatives. This means freedom of association and expression on the one hand and an organized civil society on the other hand. Transparency means that decisions taken and their enforcement are done in a manner that follows rules and regulations. This means, that information is freely available and directly accessible to those who will be affected by such decisions and their enforcement. Accountability is a key requirement of good governance. Not only governmental institutions but also the private sector and civil society organizations must be accountable to the public and to their institutional stakeholders. Accountability cannot be enforced without transparency and the rule of law. If I were asked to write a constitution for a new country then I would have chosen representative democracy form of government. I think representative democracy is better than a direct democracy.
