Soon after, at the age of 13, I was playing for a AAA team; a team ranked at the highest level in Quebec. To play varsity football for any high school showcases a significant level of skill and athleticism. It is the highest tier of competition in high school and its success is measured by state championships and playoff appearances. To be on the varsity football team, a student must be an upperclassman or have the skill set to compete at this high level. As a freshman, the coaches believed I had the skill and athleticism to start at the linebacker position for the last game of Valley View’s season. Representing my school by playing for the varsity football team was surreal to me.

The story of Todd Marinovich is very interesting. It starts, however, with his father, Marv. Marv was a former USC football player who went on to not only play in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders, but also become one of the first true professional strength and conditioning coaches. He raised his son, Todd, to be a professional athlete from day one. The two trained together every day, and while kids went with their families on vacations over summer, they just trained even more.

In his tree years at Cornel he had an amazing 76-4-1 record winning the ECAC tournament all tree years. He was then put on Montréal’s AHL team and probably would have won the AHL championship had he not been called up to win the cup and the Conn Smythe Trophy. All this before he could even win the Calder. Not a bad start to an NHL career. Dryden would go on to winner the Calder in his first full season and in years later he would fill his hand with cup rings and his trophy case with five Vezina.

My freshman year of high school I met the athletic trainer and is name was Ryan. That is when I started to work with him as the student trainer. Ryan taught me a lot about what he does and he taught me something where I could help him. So during my freshman year I just helped him with football. When it came around for football season again I helped him and I was getting better at what he taught me.
