Who is “The Great One?” For many years, Canada’s own, Wayne Gretzky, has been considered the greatest player to ever play the fast paced game of hockey. Gretzky has made his name familiar in every National Hockey League (NHL) record book during his illustrious twenty one year career. Years of NHL play have come and gone and his name still sits triumphant amongst many. However, tables have been turning the last few years as Sydney Crosby, another young Canadian player, has stepped into the spotlight and taken the professional league by storm. Records have been set by both of these talented phenomenons, but who in the end will take the title of “The Great One,” young active Sydney Crosby or the retired hockey hero Wayne Gretzky?
BOBBY ORR BIOGRAPHY By: Luca Esposito For many, the greatest hockey player the National Hockey League (NHL) has ever seen is a Canadian born legend. The “Magic Number 4”, Bobby Orr, was a star player in the NHL in the late 1960’s to the mid 1970’s. His achievements and defining moments as a hockey player continue to be highlighted and discussed today and will forever be honoured in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Robert Gordon Orr (Bobby Orr) was born March 20th, 1948 in the town of Parry Sound, Ontario. From a very young age, Bobby Orr started skating and quickly demonstrated a passion for hockey.
Pierre Elliot Trudeau was instrumental in changing the political and social environment in Canada during his administration. Trudeau had many accomplishments throughout his astonishing career which changed the face of Canadian politics. Trudeaumania swept the nation, leaving Trudeau a celebrity before he was Prime Minister. Pierre Trudeau leaves behind a legacy, which resulted in changing Canada and Canadian politics. For these reasons Trudeau is without doubt one of the greatest Canadian’s of the 20th century.

Sir Wilfrid Laurier attracted my attention a lot because he was a gritty person when he was only a teenager, he was also a modest politician and he did many contributions for education. Laurier was born to a poor family but he always worked hard and he was a really gritty child

Hockey Canada has continued to implement different strategies in order to keep Canada progressing. While some people don’t agree with certain aspects of the hockey program in Canada, it’s hard to argue against the fact that Canada is one of the best hockey nations in the world. From the youth programs to the professional levels, hockey in Canada is as strong as ever and continues to dominate on a global stage. Children in Canada are introduced to hockey at a very young age.
