Water is important because every living creature much have it to survive. You may think you can live off soft drinks and juices, but they are mostly water, but they're not very good for you. Also water is so important because it is an absolute necessity for all living things! Water is the most available compound on earth. Many of us take it for granted. Although it is the basis of life, that is just the beginning of water as a useful chemical. In fact water is useful in more ways than most of us ever think about. Everyday chemists discover new uses for what is one of the things most taken for granted. Water still and holds new potential to change our world forever. Although water is abundant, it is a very simple compound with a complex set of properties. Nearly everything about water is somehow unusual or contradictory. Water has a formula of H2O which means it has two atoms of hydrogen and one of oxygen in every molecule. Water's melting and boiling points are higher than would be expected based on similar compounds. Water has the ability to act as either an acid or a base depending on the circumstances, and by its nature it is perfectly neutral. Water is very important to life because it does make up a great deal of your body. About 70% of the muscles are made up of water. It is also a big part of the rest of the organs. Without water you dehydrate the muscles and organs and you do not survive. In humans water is a lubricant for joints and maintains healthy mucus membranes in the mouth, lungs, nose, and intestines. The human body needs water to survive. People can survive weeks without food, but several days without water typically prove fatal. Water is a molecule that has multiple uses and is a perfect solution for dissolving nutrients and transporting molecules. Without water, your body would stop working properly.
