In 2005 there were 31ambulance services but merged to form 12 in total. By doing this it has improved leadership, financial savings, greater teamwork, better flexibility and advancements in patient care according to the according to the Association of Chief Ambulance Officers (ACAO, 2011). My rationale for comparing the reports is to look at the impact of the first report because the Higher education course that I am now on has indirectly come into place because of reforms caused by this report. I will use the creation of the Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP) role to examine this change and further my understanding of how the NHS are always looking to improve their services and not just providing a rapid response to 999 calls. The main area that I will concentrate in the report is the advanced training that an ECP receives, to allow definitive care at home.
With this knowledge I plan to work toward a more cost effective and delivery system with healthcare provided to the patient population. In building a stronger healthcare system it will not only be profitable, but will also provide better care to all the patient population. As a registered nurse (RN), I have learned that I need to stay flexible and be able to adjust and adapt to the constant change that comes along in my profession. Also as an RN, I look at the healthcare profession as a revolving door, which constantly spins out new concepts, methods, and approaches. I think this will help prepare me for a management position in my field because it is imperative for a manager in this profession to have the ability to adapt, adjust and welcome new ideas and concepts directed to him or her.
Information technology is at the center of technological change and the healthcare services will be a major part of that change in an enduring way. DATA VISUALIZATION AND HEALTHCARE Introduction Data visualization is an information technology megatrend that can quite effectively inform research and strategy within the health industry. It is a disruptive technology that visually presents data in order to inspire an intuitive and deeper comprehension of complex subject matter, and relevant patterns and trends (Producer, 2013b). This enables health organizations to target research efforts and improve outcomes in services and treatment. The health industry is benefitting from the use of data visualization tools because it synthesizes vast amounts of data automatically expunging useless data.
Healthcare providers and the facilities have to be prepared to handle this changes. They have to be prepared to deal with the increasing number of patients seeking medical care. Healthcare facilities have to be prepared to have the most advance medical machines to help the aging population with their medical issues.
Predict the form and function of medical health records in 2030 (provide specific example to support your response). Medical technology today is transforming the way healthcare is delivered, managed, and assessed, with a continued shift from the old record management to more of a data management system. Eddy (1990) states that a “well-functioning EHR, comprising electronic documentation of providers’ notes, electronic viewing of laboratory and radiological results, e-prescribing, and an interoperable connection via a health information exchange with all other providers and hospitals in a community, could have a significant impact on medical practice”. Technological changes will redefine the medical record service and challenge HIM professionals to develop new concepts regarding traditional work and take on newly influential roles other than record retention, such as being a team leader. Electronic medical records are a trend that started in
Many of these factors are taken into consideration when revamping certain aspects of the processes that are used in the organization to provide better and more up to date services and treatments to terminally ill patients and their families. Having a strong partnership with the community, area hospitals, and physicians can increase the organizations ability to move into future developments that will keep them leading the way in hospice care. Internal factors such as employee morale have to remain priority also and can help to initiate a bond between the organization and their employees which will result in better accountability status on the part of employees and
Though, the community has expanded from 35,000 to 86,000, the amount of beds remained the same. The board members knew that an expansion needed to take place. The reason for this was because patients started to complain about the long waits and crowded hallways. Hallways were used for patient care and this caused the hospital to be warned about them not having a license for the upcoming year. It was decided that with the cost of 75 million, they would expand the hospital to 248 beds.
Abstract National Patient Safety Goal 07.05.01 Preventing Infection after Surgery is a multi-level, interdisciplinary approach to healthcare promotion. Surgical site infections not only increase the length of hospital stays and costs to patients, but they also increase the risk of mortality and morbidity post-operatively. This paper focuses on the ways to prevent infections before, during, and after surgery. Preventing Infections after Surgery NPSG 07.05.01 Introduction The Joint Commission (TJC) is a national organization that sets standards for healthcare agencies to meet and adhere to, to ensure a culture of safety for all patients by encouraging patients and families to become partners with healthcare professionals in protecting patients from harm. In 2002 TJC published its first annual set of National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) to require healthcare agencies to focus on specific, high-risk issues in nursing care (Ignatavicius & Workman, 2012).
Breakthroughs in technology has revolutionized the way healthcare is delivered. Modern technology changed the way structure and organization is seen in the medical field. Many methods allow technicians and physicians to examine the anatomy of a patient without invasive procedures. Advances in software and programs give health care professionals the chance to quickly diagnosis medical issues within patients. According to John Morrissey, “Eye-popping medical technology provides earlier diagnosis personalized treatments and a breathtaking range of other benefits for both patients and healthcare professionals.” With the innovation of diagnostic technology, advances in biomedical engineering, modern healthcare and its delivery methods are changing at increasing rates (Banova).
IOM: The Future of Nursing Report Larry Ziehm Rio Hondo College AND 151 Professor G. Biesemeyer, MSN, RN July 16, 2012 IOM: The Future of Nursing Report With the diverse needs of a growing population, the United States yearns for an improved health care system, improved health outcomes, and an accessible but quality health care system. I believe nursing will be the profession that will have perhaps have the biggest role, as they deliver compassionate care to their patients, which will carry across ones lifespan. The nursing profession is one of the fastest developing fields in the health care industry, not only here in the United States; but also in the world. According to Mcneal (2012), “Clearly the focus of healthcare needs to change from illness care to prevention.” The dynamic health care industry has without a doubt changed over the last couple decades and as a result the necessity for changes in nursing practice has become increasingly important. The Institute of Medicine: The Future of Nursing Report discusses so many positive key messages to improve nursing care; but three seem to have the greatest impact in my mind, in regards to the future of nursing, the transformation of the: nursing practice, nursing education and nurse’s role.
