Ch. 3 pg. 92 Walmart’s Discrimination Difficulties 1. According to this case, Walmart has been accused of violating the title 7 civil rights act when they discriminated against the applicants of different race, color, and sex. Walmart could have avoided these charges by having interviews that have a preset list of questions.
Wal-Mart will not tolerate, permit, or engage in bribery, or corruption. Bribery of public officials in the U.S. and abroad is illegal under both U.S. law and the local law of the countries in the places Wal-Mart operate. Wal-Mart’s policy goes beyond these legal requirements and prohibits corrupt payments in all circumstances, whether in dealings with public officials or individuals in the private sector. The Chief Executive officer of Walmart says Walmart is a strong commitment to ethics and integrity it is just the right way to do business. It’s how Wal-Mart earns the trust and respect that is critical to Wal-Mart’s success, and our ability to help more people live better.
Tanglewood prides itself in being an inclusive organization. From their prospective their commitment to diversity is evidenced by their actions; there are consequences for those who exhibit discriminatory behavior, and the organization's position on welcoming diversity is clearly documented in their company handbooks. They claim to be unaware any discriminatory implications in their hiring practices. With that said, they are committed to making changes to their hiring model should it be deemed necessary. However, if it is proven their current practices are not an issue, they want to keep them in place.
* Walmart has strategtically placed their stores in locations where support of a workers right not to join in a union takes place, rather than in states that practice pro-union stature. * Walmart participates in regulatory arbitrage. This is strategy, which favors
However, having someone that fits the organization’s culture and missions is also important for Tanglewood. Specific or General KSAOs: I think that Tanglewood should focus on the specific KSAOs because any organization would want to hire someone that can fit the job competencies with a vast knowledge of the job and the skills to perform effectively. Exceptional or Acceptable Workforce Quality: Tanglewood doesn’t really target temporary employees so exceptional workforce quality would work better for them. This would give them the opportunity to invest in their associates and make sure that they grow within the organization. Active or Passive Diversity: I would say that Tanglewood should look into active diversity because it meets the diverse needs of the customers.
Wal-Mart is one of America's biggest stores that consumers go to. Which makes Wall-mart one of America's biggest stores in the market that consumers go to. Yet there comes pros and cons of big businesses such as Wal-Mart. Many people know the pros to Wal-Mart it being one of America's biggest consumers, but not many people know the cons. Such as the violations of labor laws and gender discrimination, and taking out smaller businesses wherever they set up.
The company at hat served the public best would be favored in a competitive situation C. My opinion is that there should be a balance between competition and government involvement. A competitive situation would keep utility employees striving to satisfy the needs of their customer. Without competition some employees could become indifferent to customer satisfaction as the customer can not go anywhere else. Government involvement would be important by setting standards that must be adhered to by competing companies as far as level of service and also ensure that the competing companies can not fix pricing to consumers and artificially control what the consumer will
The first red flag would be that they are competing with huge computer companies that can have anything a customer needs readily available to ship. While Keystone seems to be doing a great job keeping up with the demand of certain products, they are forced to charge the customers more money for those products. While this has not currently affected them, it could in the future and could eventually be a problem for them. Another thing is that although business is booming right now, computers businesses do very well when the economic conditions are good. There are reports that say the economy will grow over the next few years (2010), but there is a possibility that they could be wrong and that won’t happen.
However they would have notify customers of the use of the technology in their stores, as underage people may wish to avoid the stores which could lead to a decrease in sales from the stores who use the system. The storage of customer details may also provide opportunity for the company to benefit, as it may allow them to send customer advertisements or flyers, promoting their business and special offers analysis. The convenience of the technology is vast, but the initially costs as well as maintenance may be large, and to justify the use of the technology it would have to be ensured that it is worthwhile, depending on the size and revenue of the store. Also if the technology was not reliable it could lead to further large costs for the company and would be very inconvenient to employees and possibly customers, possibly leading to a decrease in sales
Strategy and Policy Group Project WAL-MART STORES, INC.: UNDER ATTACK (2006) The Stage II is intended to compensate for the weaknesses inherent in SWOT matrix and add additional perspectives to the analysis. In Stage II, your analysis will be geared toward responding to several questions related to the assigned case. This will require you to go beyond the rational analysis performed in Stage I, but provide you with more flexibility and freedom in formulating your answers, where you are not strictly bound by rationality, as is the case with the SWOT matrix. This is to recognize that an organization is not an entirely rational entity but a dynamic one (e.g., actions are taken based on rational as well as other considerations), that a SWOT is not likely to capture all the nuances of an organization, and that considerations beyond what the data/facts indicate (e.g., organizational politics, wisdom of the strategic manager, factors that are not apparently visible, etc.,), all of which may play an important role in the formulation of a strategy. For example, a SWOT matrix may not touch on or provide a satisfactory answer to the type of questions, such as: How would you describe Phil Knight's leadership philosophy?
