In this report various drawback s and strengths of voting methods will be discussed and analyzed, including the combination of criteria that Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem states no rank-ordered voting method can satisfy. Several cities around the country have experimented recently with instant runoff voting (IRV). Some of these cities have experienced dissatisfaction with this method and have eliminated it after only a few elections. Some reasons for this quick turnaround will be discussed in terms of the drawbacks of instant runoff voting. Another voting method used in political elections, the Borda count, will be discussed.
Assess the claim that the Democratic and Republican parties are now ideologically distinct and internally united (30) There is much debate on how today’s two major political parties are arranged with their ideologies. Their ideologies are the main principles which each party stands for so is more or less the back bone and reasoning for every party’s existence. There have been many links and divides between the Democrats and Republicans since these parties began and at times some have argued for these links becoming too strong and the parties not being individual enough and representing what the party is meant to stand for. Within each party historically there have been many deep various factions, these are smaller groups within each party who although associate themselves with the main big tent party have their own separate ideologies on certain factors which separates them. For many years both parties have had a conservative and a liberal wing, which has damaged the unity of each party as they have not been ideologically distinct.
In the spirit of selfish self interest, the majority in a state will vote on implementing laws that favor the majority population without considering how it will affect the minority population. Someone has to step in and protect the minority’s interests and check any sort of discrimination directed to them. In this case the only people with the legal power to do so are the legislators and the government, even if it means facing majority outcry in the process. Oversimplifying an important public policy into a multiple choice decision, as earlier stated, might not result in the implementation of public laws. When voting in referendums, it is doubtful that most of the people voting have a complete idea on the decision they are making.
Things which convince the majority of today’s voter in the United Kingdom are not really the long-term policies of the parties, or any alignment to parties. As a mentioned before even the class system is not that important anymore, therefore it is not a main reason to vote for the party which used to be the one related to the voter’s class. It is much more likely that the voting public decides what to vote influenced by so-called short-term factors. Another term which is used is issue-voting so the electorate decides new for every single election what are now at the moment the policies I want to support. A voter could switch from voting for the Conservatives to vote for the Labour Party at the next election because they decide according to single issues.
Assess the significance of region, race and religion as factors explaining voting behaviour in the USA. Voting behaviour has absorbed a great deal of the time of both political parties in America. Much effort has been put into analysing voting behaviour and patterns in previous elections - be they national, state or local elections etc. - in an effort to predict their own voter base and those social groups they could concentrate their efforts on and those groups that would appear to be a lost cause and therefore a waste of time in terms of money spent and time invested in targeting as potential voters. Any comment about a social, religious or minority group can only be generalised when referring to its voting habits and so the following comments can only be taken as a generalisation.
This message should especially be thought about from the countries that don’t give opportunities to everyone based on the race or sex of that person. A recent example would be of the fourteen year old girl that fought for her opportunity of education that was only given to men in the country of Pakistan. This is an example of not only the U.S, but other countries that should listen to Washington’s messages that were said throughout his speech of “The American Standard”. There should be no racial discriminations. This is a message that was followed by law of the U.S, but is still not followed if circumstances are carefully viewed.
So how free were Blacks in the North? The answer to that question is, not very. Although they did have some freedoms they still had many more restrictions. This document will show you the many more restrictions than freedoms Blacks in the North actually had. The few freedoms blacks in the North had, according to Document A, were the right to vote, but only in five states!
This could bias any inferences about the population in that you’re only looking at only certain demographics across the potential republican voters. This interview was also conducted before the official results were even released, some of those sampled may now wish to change their responses based on certain events and the final result in
Amish generally avoid holding public office and engaging in political activism, but are permitted to vote. The rate of voting is typically low unless a local issue is on the ballot. In recent years, numerous conflicts have pitted the Amish against the growing regulatory power of the state. Points of friction have included military service, education, Social Security, health care, property zoning, child labor, photo identification, and the use of slow-moving-vehicle signs. To cope with these various conflicts, the Amish have formed a national steering committee with representatives in various states to work with public legislators when issues arise.
Louisiana does not specifically fit into every one of Diamond’s five-point structure, but we can evaluate Louisiana with most of them. Choosing to build levees once seemed like a good idea. The benefit of the levees would out way the costs. This is not true though. Everyday the environment is damaged because of these levees.
