The quote “… at hearing whose voice the King rejoices, the Chief Wife of the King, his beloved, the Lady of the Two Lands, Neferneferuaten – Nefertiti, May she live for Ever and Always.” From an Amarna inscription indicates that Akhenaten relationship with Nefertiti was not only through their children, equal on both sides and political but also romantic. Individual in History: Amelia Earhart Action & Legacies Amelia Earhart, what comes to your mind when you hear this particular name? When I think of this name, I think of a courageous, strong woman who paved the road of dreams by making them come true. From a very young age, Amelia was encouraged to do as she pleased by her mother. She did everything that little boys did and wore bloomers, while girls wore skirts at that time. She also kept a scrapbook of newspaper clippings about successful women in predominantly male-oriented fields, including film direction and production, law, advertising, management, and mechanical engineering.
This tradition has altered but the stereotypical role of the wife has changed very little. In his article entitled “Responsibilities of a Wife”, author E.R. Hill, Jr. states that “A submissive wife is a worthy woman, has accepted a worthy role, is committed to a worthy objective, and is performing a worthy work; She deserves the praise of her family, the gratitude of her nation, and the honor of any civilized society” (par.5). Hill also outlines the Biblical roles of women stating that the women is “to be fruitful…be there for companionship, for affection, for sexual needs and to be keepers at the home” (par.7-11). In the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, the main character Janie discovers her vision of at a young age.
He feels the wives are the ones to take care of the children and that children listen to mothers more. “It seems most commonly to be the mother's influence, though naturally a bad father's would have the same result." (Act 1 Scene 1 line 39. )We meet Nora as carfree and loving. She seems like the doting wife, who loves taking care of her children and her husband.
In that time family matters were defined culturally as “women’s area of concern” (Peterson, page 214). The “wise” women shared their beliefs and knowledge to others about the importance of family. The role of a grandmother is highly respected, and they are a source of love, strength, and stability (Peterson, page 216). Religion emphasizes as an outlet for the oppressed (Peterson, page 216). They give insight to the young on their own values.
In the novels, the Diallos are much more capable parents than Baba. Firstly, both Mr. and Mrs. Diallo are caring and want the best for their daughter, Aminata. Aminata recalls her father’s caring manner, “Put those silly children out of your mind, Papa said. Stay close to your Mama and me, don’t go out wandering alone, and you will be fine.” (Hill, 17-18) In fear of stories about missing children, Aminata approaches her parents. This presents a close relationship between the two because Aminata is comfortable speaking to her parents about her concerns.
Women like Abigail Adams, who had no formal education or schooling, was able to teach herself how to write and read and made herself a very influential young lady. Although she was known for being one of the pioneers of women who made tremendous amount of differences in our history, she was also very famous for writing many letters to her husband that were filled with her personal opinions of the culture and the women’s rights and politics in the nation. Her best known letter to her husband “Remember the Ladies” still marks a big part of women’s history for its positive effects for the rights of women. Ages ago, this religion provided the groundwork for promoting the status of women. Sadly, this is a lesson that still remains unlearned in our modern world. Women have always played an important role in Daoism, as teachers who have influenced the development of Daoist teachings and as goddesses, the principal embodiments of feminine yin energy and the necessary counterparts to masculine yang energy. The significance of goddesses is most apparent in the divine mother figures, special protectors of women, and childbirth. Their worship, however, was not limited to women; in fact, they had an equally strong male following.
