This information is intended to help the UON board determine whether or not to redesign its website to better meet the needs of ostomy patients. An analysis of the demographic profile of the general ostomy population will ensure that UON is creating a website that will bring real value to this population of ostomy patients. The survey clearly identified the importance of stoma management and support services to ostomy patients. Over 90 percent of respondents answered that stoma management and support services were very important or important to them. However, 66 percent responded that they were satisfied or very satisfied with the information they currently receive. In regards to the specific services, the survey further revealed: * 67 percent of respondents said support services for complications were very important or important * 81 percent of respondents said support with ordering stoma management products were very important or important * 80 percent of respondents said support with health insurance is very important or important. * 70 percent stated that counseling support is very important or important. Those with permanent stomas represent the majority of stoma patients looking for additional resources and support. UON should also heavily focus on the baby-boomer generation as boomers represent the majority of ostomy patients and are more comfortable on the internet. Additionally, with an average respondent age of 62 years, many stoma recipients have numerous years of life ahead of them, and will continue to search out new information regarding ostomy care. UON’s new website should also emphasize those whose ostomy surgery was a result of cancer or chronic bowel disease; as the majority of ostomy surgeries were due to these diseases.
