M1 - Assess the biomedical and socio-medical models of health The biomedical model of health "The biomedical model of illness and healing focuses on purely biological factors, and excludes psychological, environmental, and social influences. This is considered to be the dominant, modern way for health care professionals to diagnose and treat a condition in most Western countries. Most health care professionals do not first ask for a psychological or social history of a patient; instead, they tend to analyse and look for biophysical or genetic malfunctions. The focus is on objective laboratory tests rather than the subjective feelings or history of the patient." (Wise geek) This is the model of health that has over taken the way medication, treatment and diagnoses is done in many Western countries.
Taiwo Question 1: Explain how sociological and lay ideas about illness differ from those of biomedicine. It is important to define the key words to fully underscore the difference between them as it relates to illness. By sociological and lay ideas, we mean application of theories, concepts and non-scientific explanation of illness. On the other hand, biomedicine is the scientific approach to diagnosing and healing illnesses and diseases. It has been referred to as the modern pathway to solving human physiological, biological, microbiological, and psychological problems through scientific examination, evaluation, and diagnosis using modern technology.
in this assinemnt i am goig to explain health promotion and health protecton, i will then explain an approprate metod to prevent/control tb and stroke, as they are the communicable and non-communicable disease. health promotion is the process of allowing people to use control over the determainats of health and so improing there health. as a concept and set of parctical strateiegs it remains an important guide in addressing the major health challenges faced by developing and devloped nations that involve communicable and non-communicable diesases and reservations linked to the health of bumans and the development. health promotion is a process linked towords getting people to take action. so health promotion is not something that is done on or to people its done by, with and for people weater they are in groups or indevidual.

To define the concept of ill- health there are two main approaches, arising from different views of what the courses are, referred to as the medical and social models of health. Essentially the foundations of these models of health can be separated by, prevention and cure. The biomedical model focuses on cure for illness, whilst the social models of health underpin the origins of illness, allowing these models to successfully coexists, alongside each. The biomedical model presumes that illness is always due to abnormalities in the body's workings. It works on the theory that if a part of the body goes wrong it should be fixed or replaced, in the same way that a machine would be repaired.
The public health model views mental disorders as the result of malfunctions or pressures created by the environment or by society. This model emphasizes preventing the problem through supporting activities such as use of films, speakers, school programs, and pamphlets, all aimed at educating the population about the problem. Patients are helped outside a residential setting using consultation with family and education of the patient and the family and other community resources. The human service model is concerned with the interaction between the individual and the environment, stressing the need for balance between the two. By the end of the 19th century, the new medical model was based on the assumption that diseases of the soul were completely separate from diseases of the body.
This essay will be looking at what is meant by the term social model of health and I will be describing the differences when it is compared to the medical model of health. The social model of health is a view that health is multidimensional with social factors, such as class, gender and ethnicity, influencing and patterning health and illness.
