Unit 4, D1 Michael Jackson’s Childhood and Adulthood In this piece of assignment I will be evaluating how nature and nurture may affect the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development for the two stages of Michael Jackson Michael Jackson’s main life stages are his childhood and his adulthood. Childhood (4-10yrs) Intellectual: Michael could use some new vocabulary and work things out, however he did not really understand the different implications in the new vocabulary he was learning and using, as children cannot properly understand how things like numbers etc. really work. Emotional and Social: Children use their imaginations to understand the different responsibilities other people have. They begin to imagine their own little “me-an idea of themselves”. Relationships with other family members and close members can influence how a child feels admired. During Michael’s childhood, he states that he it was taken away from him. There was neither Christmas nor birthdays and it was not a normal childhood nor included the normal pleasures of childhood. Instead they were replaced with hard work, struggle and pain and that he cannot re-create that part of his life. Social: Young children can get emotionally attached and dependent on those who care for them. Michael’s behaviour and actions came from him not having a childhood. Nature Vs Nurture The events in Michael’s childhood such as not having a “normal” childhood and always working hard and suffering could be contended that it could be both nature and nurture. Nature could be blamed for this as he had a natural singing voice and so he might’ve needed to rehearse and train to keep his voice at a certain level. However, this can be argued that nurture may have a part in this, because of the fact that his father trained him and his upbringing too, since he was singing, rehearsing and training throughout
