E3 Meningitis is an infection that attacks the membranes which protect and surround the brain and spinal cord. This will then cause the membranes, the meninges, to inflame which can then, in some cases, damage the nerves and brain. Meningistis can effect anyone, however child whom are under the age of five, are most at risk. There are many symptoms for childrem who have meningitis, some of these symptoms are having a high fever, but have cold hands and feet, vomiting and refusing to feed, feeling agitated and not wanting to be picked up and becoming drowsy, floppy and unresponsive. There are two types of meningitis, bacterial and viral, bacterial is caused through close contact with someone whom has it, and viral is caused through virusses
