Public health within the United Kingdom has drastically improved since the times of the 19th and 20th century this can be explained by the increase to the socio-economic status of the country. With this increase this has then allowed for the development and research on certain diseases and illness onhow they can then limit or abolish them; in order for them to no longer exist. The health within the United Kingdom has also increased due to free access to health care due to the National Health Service being set up; but also it is due to there being a larger quantity of trained staff that is now able to treat or help give knowledge to individuals on certain conditions. However there are also a number of factors which can influence the pattern of health within this country and these are; socio-economic, environmental, lifestyle, genetic and government policies. Socio-economic factors within the United Kingdom refer to the hierarchy that the individual obtains through factors such as social class, gender and education. Depending on these above this can limit the chances to resources the individual then has. It is shown from the ‘Black Report of 1980’ (Stretch.B and Whitehouse.M, 2010) that those from lower social class have then a greater chance to having the poorest health within society. In the UK the income differences for every household varies and this health inequality will persist meaning that this will have an influence to the patterns of health. If the individual may not be receiving a great deal of income they begin to worry or become stressed to where the money will come from; but how they will also be able to feed their families. This could then lead to them resulting in addiction such as drugs or alcohol to ease their worry which then eventually may lead to a mental illness such as depression and eventually suicide.
