Unit 1 Assignment 1: Voice vs Data Cell Phones: Cell phones are a part of our everyday lives depending who you ask. The technology for them have come leaps and bounds that what anyone could imagine. Cell phones use to use a voice network only collecting waves from towers to transfer their voice communication. Sending one signal out and receiving one signal in. Now, though cell phones use both voice and data for their networks and it has been ongoing competition since then between carriers. When data first arrived the cell phone populous people raged about it. Now they could surf the web and navigate their way home while all still maintaining a conversation on the phone. However, companies saw how big of a demand data became since the introduction of social networking. Now companies have put a limit to how much voice and data you can have depending on the price you pay for service.…show more content…
Landline phones used a strict data transfer for their communication. When data was introduced back in the days of the launch of IE (Internet Explorer) you could either do one of two things, surf the web or talk on the phone. Landline phones would use the data that was wired to the house to keep you connected. However, the internet would use all the data as well for surfing the web. Landline phones were excellent back in the day, now they are one sale at your local Wal-Mart for $20 bucks. Eventually they introduced cordless landline phones however they were still using the data network for communication. SMS/Text Messaging: Text Messaging what would we do if we didn’t have it these days. Text messaging uses the voice network to communicate to its recipients. It uses the power of the towers to transfer the message from the sender to the receiver. Even without data on your side using the 3G or 4G network you could still receive and send
