4. Summarise the types of risks that may be involved in assessment in your own area of responsibility Health and Safety is a generic risk that can be found in any workplace. As an assessor, you may come across hazards within your own workplace and in each workplace you visit your learners. The types of hazards which can be found at each workplace are often similar, however can differ for the industry that the individual works in. For example, someone working in a factory will have the risk of the machinery in addition to the generic risks of trips, slips and falls that would be found in most office environments. Another type of Health and Safety risk could be that a learner had not received induction or training when commencing their employment or that they had not been issued any special clothing (e.g. high viz jacket or steelcapped boots if having to go through the factory part of the business where this was required). Another risk when assessing is the risk of over-assessing. This can include assessing the same evidence on more than one occasion which leads to over assessing and may well be picked up at either internal or external verification. Also an assessor may put too much pressure on the learner to complete the qualification within a certain timeframe or ask them produce more evidence than is required for a certain unit. There can be a risk of evidence not being valid or authentic, for example where a learner asks someone else to produce a learner statement on their behalf. In addition, there is also the risk of being unfair to the user by using an assessment method that they do not find suitable to their needs. Each centre has their own standardisation procedures and it is the responsibility of the assessor to ensure that they work within this agreed framework. Failure to do so will compromise the quality assurance of the centre.
