Baseball has been widely known as America’s favorite pastime. It is considered a game of inches. Umpiring is a vital part of that game. Why umpires are strongly needed and the training that is involved from little league up to the major league level, will be explained in this essay. Umpires are needed to keep the peace of the game and sometimes it still gets out of hand. Without umpires there could be a lot of cheating. A ball that is fair by inches could be called foul to help the other team. Umpires also keep the game flowing. A coach could go visit the pitcher at the mound and without an umpire telling him to hurry up who knows how long they would be at the mound.
