Sometimes surgery is recommended if medications fail to reduce the eye pressure. The first surgical option generally attempted is called trabeculoplasty. Its goal is the allow fluids to flow more easily out of the eye, thus lowering the pressure. A successful trabeculoplasty is effective for 3-5 years. The laser procedure is painless and generally takes under half an hour.
According to Meleis (2007) knowing includes knowledge based on observation, research findings (evidenced based), clinical manifestations and scientific approach. As a stroke nurse empirical knowing it’s very important in taking care of stroke patients. I determine patient’s neurological status by performing neuro checks frequently every 1-2 hrs as the patient’s condition might deteriorate the first 24hrs and perform swallow test to determine if the patient can swallow medications. Patient’s plan of care is based on assessment findings(vital signs, Glasgow coma score). If a patient is confused and very weak fall precaution is observed by activating the bed alarms, request for a PT/OT consult, if the patient does not pass the swallow test, a speech therapist is consulted. Sometimes patient’s neurological deficits get resolved after a few hours or days and that calls for change of treatment plan.
Semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted with 26 patients. Interviews were digitally recorded and transcribed, and a thematic analysis of the data was undertaken. To explore stroke patients’ experiences of selfmonitoring with nurse-led support. e604 British Journal of General Practice, September 2011 Participants were highly motivated to avoid a further stroke and developed a strong focus on blood pressure control and attaining a ‘good result’. Only a minority reported anxiety about their blood pressure.
Assignment 2 Quantitative Research Paper: Introduction: Haws, J., Ramjeet, J., & Gray, R. (2011). A national survey of GP and nurse attitudes and beliefs towards depression after myocardial infarction. Journal of Clinical Nursing, 20, 3215-3223. The researchers performed a quantitative cross-sectional survey; the purpose of this study was to investigate the different attitudes from healthcare professionals to depression following a myocardial infarction. This article was published on The Journal of Clinical Nursing in 2011, which is a high impact forum.

We have recently got your test results in from your Neurological examination (the assessment of sensory neuron and motor responses) and your Magnetic resonance imaging scan (MRI), a medical imaging technique used in radiology to visualize internal structures of the body in detail. I am sorry to inform you that your test came back positive for Huntington’s disease. Huntington’s disease is a common disease with symptoms that become more noticeable between the ages of 35 and 44. Huntington’s disease is an incurable, hereditary brain disorder.

Benefits of Exercise These days, many people are searching for a miracle cure or pill to alleviate their ailments, calm their minds, or shed their unwanted pounds. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to visit a physician and obtain a prescription for a magic potion for treatment of any condition? Several afflictions can be treated without paying astronomical amounts to doctors; the antidote is exercise which can improve your health and boost your brain power. The most common benefits of exercise include increasing muscle and bone strength, maintaining healthy weight, and lowering the risks of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Regular physical activity helps reduce the chances of Type 2 diabetes by regulating the blood sugar levels in the body, and it helps reduce heart disease by lowering blood pressure and increasing your HDL cholesterol.
The Effects Of Gender on Cardiovascular Fitness After Exercise By Kaitlyn Frandoni Abstract We tested the at rest pulse rate of one male and one female student before having each follow a three minute stepping exercise routine. A metronome kept the pace of the routine and the time was kept by stopwatch. We found that on average females had a higher pulse rate than males, but they return to their resting heart rate only slightly faster than their male counterparts. However, the difference in the time it takes both genders to reach an “at rest” pulse rate is not significant, concluding that gender does not factor into how much time it takes for a person to reach their “at rest” pulse rate after a short amount of exertion. Introduction For decades there have been numerous studies that tested various hypotheses on what variables impact a person’s cardiovascular fitness.
Developing Fitness Lab By: Megan McLin Purpose: Working out a technique to find for fitness without a strenuous activity Methods and Materials Per group: * An ECG rate * A laptop with the proper software for recording heart rates * A low chair or stool * A timer * A calculator In developing a fitness test, the hypothesis conducted in this experiment will test if ones heart rate will recover more quickly after exercise in fit people than in less fit people. Before starting the experiment, the person in the group exercising this experiment must determine their resting heart rate. If the resting rate is higher than 75 bpm, the person exercising in the experiment must not continue. To find the resting heart rate, locate the radial artery pulse on the wrist and record the number of beats within 12seconds with a timer. Then divide that time by 12 and multiply by 60.
The ACE perindopril is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and help prevent heart attacks for people with coronary heart disease, (Weigman, n.d.). Within the study participants aged sixty-five or older were used. Participants could not have suffered from heart failure or left ventricular systolic dysfunction. Also, participants had to have mobility problems or functional impairments. They were given the ACE perindopril or placebo for twenty weeks.
