Her main claim, “text messaging additionally deteriorates literacy,” is also presented in this list (118). Her overall paper is really effective and persuasive because she applies key rhetorical strategies. Using logos, Stafford presents data from various polls, surveys, and resources to inform the reader about how common texting has become among students. For example, she quotes that “95% of students over the age of 15 have a cell phone” (116). That is a crucial information because it shows the reader through the use of factual claims that Stafford is well educated in this topic which helps to establish her ethos.
As I reflect upon my analytical report, the issue that I had was to engage my audience to change over to use the new design software. The audience to my paper was a group of Senior Analyst that has been using design software that has been outdated. I had to show, that the new software would improve our business, by offering our customers paper less forms. To better persuasive my audience, I gave them more information about the Microsoft designer, and the capabilities that the software can provide. I chose to identify the problems that our old design system was giving our design team.
Feedback is important to MSM driving school as they just opened a new website and it is vital they make it useable for all ages. If this is not done they show that they are not caring of their customers opinions meaning they are losing customers. Promotion of website When a new business starts a website they need to promote it so that it becomes noticed by the public. There are two types of promotions, online promotion and
This, of course, is a crucial part of growing up. Faced with same challenge today, however, I would probably pass on meeting the girl's father — and outflank him on the Internet. Thanks to e-mail, online chat rooms and instant messages — which permit private, real-time conversations — adolescents have at last succeeded in shielding their social lives from adult scrutiny. But this comes at a cost: teenagers nowadays are both more connected to the world at large than ever, and more cut off from the social encounters that have historically prepared young people for the move into adulthood. The Internet was billed as a revolutionary way to enrich our social lives and expand our civic connections.
Great rewards and opportunities also come about while going through the process of growth and development. This is significantly demonstrated in the texts ‘Educating Rita’ by Willy Russell, ‘An Education’ by Nick Hornby and the poem ‘The Door’ by Miroslav Holub. Rita, the street-wise, fast-talking, main character of Educating Rita, embarks on an Open University course because she wants more out of her life. She is discontented- “out of step” with her husband, family and friends- and wants to learn “everything”, hoping that an education will allow her to move into a different world, one where she has some “choice” about the direction of her life. This links to the film ‘An Education’ where David is describing Jenny, “Isn’t it wonderful to find someone who wants to find out new things”.
Kyle Alexander Humanities 100 Professor Fashbaugh Short Essay 4/Literature 4-13-13 Half the Sky I believe that Nicholas D. Kristof’s main objective in writing Half the Sky is to educate and inform the readers of the horrors and lack of women’s rights taking place in developing countries. Not only does he intend to educate the reader but he also feels the importance to provide the reader with reasons as to why they should take an interest in creating a better situation world-wide through improving education, employment opportunities, maternal mortality, and the depletion of sex trafficking. Kristof educates and moves the reader by using the technique of effecting readers so deeply through personal stories that they feel ‘obliged’ to at least keep reading and if possible, help those in need. With that being said I think throughout this book one can acquire the idea that the brutality against women is an equivalent to slavery and that women’s empowerment and equality leads to the betterment of society.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES - BA 2101, SECTION 011 FINAL ESSAY – 3/7/2013 INSTRUCTOR: Lindsay R. Teich Major in Success College students need more guidance in how to turn their talents, curiosity, and passions into successful careers. Most guidance offices and books on the subject will be inadequate for these purposes. The writing style is witty and engaging, and the examples are interesting and relevant. Repetition does occur in using the examples, but it's not too bad. While this book has some weaknesses in helping you select the direction you should go in, it is superb in helping you pursue your goals once they are set.
Researched Argument Paper In his What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy, James Paul Gee strives to prove that video games lead to “good learning of hard and challenging things”(Gee 4), and does so rather successfully. He supports his claims with many examples from his own personal experiences as well as a few research experiments he has done in classrooms. The results of these examples in addition to other professional journals clearly agree with his main assertions. When it comes to credibility of this book, James Paul Gee is very qualified to be speaking about the topics he addresses. Not only has he studied linguistics and philosophy in college, but he has also taught for many years in classrooms.
Kendra writes and article about how same-sex adoption isn’t simple but very complicated and difficult. I could use this information of how difficult it is with a testimony from a same-sex couple that has gone through the adoption process. Kendra’s ethos is strong since she used credible sources to gather this information. At the end of the article it lists sources used. With this source it will enhance
Promoting Literacy and Comprehension The ways of traditional teaching are a thing of the past. In today’s classrooms teachers are working hard to find new and exciting ways to engage the students, promote learning, comprehension and writing. However, even with the stimulating activities and lessons students will continue to ask the same question, “Why do I have to learn this? When will this ever be a part of real life?” Teachers must be prepared to explain to their students exactly how math, reading, science, and history will all be a used outside of a classroom setting and in the real world. For example, teachers should shine light on how studying algebra actually develops stronger problem solving skills and leads students into a deeper level of thinking.
