She cared about him and believed of what he was capable to do in his life so much that even followed him to West Point when he was a cadet, and lived there so she could be close to him. The main influence in MacArthur’s life was the military academy West Point. He lived his life by the West Point values of duty and honor, which shaped his personality and who he became. General Douglas MacArthur was one of America’s most powerful leaders in history. His fantastic strategies combined with his skills of being a great general helped many of the outcomes of the American conflicts in his time and many of the victories may not have been received if it was for MacArthur.
Lincoln learned valuable lessons from this; he knew he needed to find military leadership he could rely on. It became his priority. He also became aware of his limited military experience and had more of hands on commander in chief. Immediately after Bull Run, Lincoln decided to change generals. Even though this was huge in the beginning of his Presidency, and it was a mistake at the time, Lincoln always rose from a problem.
David Barajas English/poli.sci. Eric martinsen March 26,2014 War Mentality Before watching these movies, a little doubt set in that between these two movies there would be a difficult time finding differences and similarities because of such a huge time gap between them. The thought process when approaching these great war flicks was the major military advancements the us government has made to the armed forces since the late 70s. To a nice surprise, a common foundation for these great stories were starting to become clear. The more the movie went into depth, the more stronger the similarities and differences presented themselves.
He taught that sometimes leadership has to be personnel to be effective, that we should never give up on those who we have been given to train and lead, and that leader’s must supervisor their subordinates to show that they care for their well-being as well as that of the countries, it is our mission. Sergeant First Class Crutchfield peered into the black Iraq night sky and said to me, “The Army promotes Soldiers based on potential and merit that you posses not your deeds and accomplishments. It is this potential that leaders must recognize early in leadership. Through this we can teach our Soldiers to be disciplined and capable of making decisions in the most perilous of situations no matter the circumstances. While we
It is by far the finest book I have read, and it continues to impact how I lead. 2. We Were Soldiers Once … and Young by Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway Pete Kilner: I read this while at the Infantry Officer Advanced Course. I was struck by how Hal Moore and his commanders knew their Soldiers, by the things Moore did to create a winning culture and by how unpredictable war can be. Another big takeaway was that despite the brutality and emotions of combat, a leader must remain calm, see the big picture, and anticipate the “next steps” for his unit and the enemy.
The Importance of Rank Structure in the Marine Corps Rank structure is important to the Marine Corps because it forms one of the fundamental backbones of our military service. Basically I believe that with out rank structure, the Marine Corps could not function. This is has been proven fact over the centuries, by the countless mob armies that have arisen in history. Thy have fallen apart because they had no clear leadership. The way I like to think of Rank Structure in the Marine Corps is the way I’ve always heard it, “shit rolls down hill”.
CHAPTER 27 I seem to have said enough to make you see why this war is in its very nature unavoidable, in its magnitude dangerous. It remains for me to speak of the general who ought to be selected for that war, and appointed to the management of such important affairs. I wish, O Romans, that you had such an abundance of brave and honest men, that it was a difficult subject for your deliberations, whom you thought most desirable to be appointed to the conduct of such important affairs, and so vast a war. But now, when there is Cnaeus Pompeius alone, who has exceeded in valour, not only the glory of these men who are now alive, but even all recollections of antiquity, what is there that, in this case, can raise a doubt in the mind of any one? CHAPTER 28 For I think that these four qualities are indispensable in a great general,—knowledge of military affairs, valour, authority and good fortune.

One of the greatest purposes is to maintain order. Due to the hazardous and often unpredictable nature of military service, a great deal of discipline is required to ensure that soldiers don't panic in the heat of combat. To do this, Marines are assigned ranks according to their combat experience or training. Experienced Marines command less experienced ones of lower rank.
