Shiffrin and Avi Silberschatz is a short essay that discusses the usage of cellphones to text and talk while driving. The use of technology is rapidly increasing in today’s society and with it comes the troubles of having it misused. Every year tens of thousands of people die from car accidents related to texting and driving a year. In order to have better safety on the roads the usage of cell phones while driving should be altered or made illegal. In the essay the authors claim that president Obama has forbidden federal workers form texting while driving. The president of the United States, Barack Obama, finds this to be a dangerous procedure to be doing while on the road. If the president is saying that it’s wrong, there’s a good chance that it’s wrong. There’s also the Congress looking into the restricting on federal employees using their phones while driving. Undoubtingly, this restriction won’t be only federal workers only. It will be passed on to streets everywhere and normal drivers as well. By putting a stop to texting and driving will be like “putting a guard on a knife handle”. Over all, texting and driving is a serous occurrence that happens every day. Because of it people are getting hurt or even getting killed from accidents. There are ways to put an end to how dangerous of a behavior it is, other than just making it out right illegal.
