Concealed Weapons The U.S. Government cannot guarantee our safety, protecting ourselves and our families is our personal duty. The government should not affect the ability for responsible citizens to protect and defend themselves and their loved ones. One may feel safer being armed, even if they never need to draw their weapon. I feel we should have the right to carry concealed handguns, because we deserve the right to protect ourselves and our families, especially when the government cannot. According to a report by statistician, William Sturdevant, “A majority of adults who legally carry concealed handguns are law-abiding citizens, who do not misuse their firearms”.
The Second Amendment is a law that was formulated to give the citizens of The United States of America the right to own and bear firearms. More gun control laws have been set in place as a deterrent for criminals to purchase firearms. Gun control laws are not the only way to avoid and protect criminals from purchasing firearms. Even with the gun control laws, debates, the Second Amendment and the Tiahrt Amendment, there is a lack of enforcement of these laws which has caused more violence. There also has not been a reduction in the number of criminals with guns.
I personally don’t think that’s cool because we do have the right to bear arms as the 2nd Amendment states in that case we should have guns for the reason of being a victim of a criminal. Not only does 2nd Amendment state that guns should be for hunting but also to protect us from the government turning on us. Transition: Now that you know some facts of why guns should not be banned let’s look at the benefits of owing a firearm. 2. Article from gunowner.com (Gun Saves Life) said Law-Abiding Citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals 2.5 million times every year or about 6,850 times a day.
Gun control laws have become such a huge controversy in the United States due to the fact that citizens believe their Second Amendment right is being taken away from them. In my eyes, I believe that extended gun control measures should be taken to ensure that access to assault weapons should be limited to certain people. I believe one deserve a well rounded background check to see if any mental health issues are visible. I also believe you have the right to own a weapon and the government is not trying to take away your hunting rifles, personal permitted handguns, etc. They government is emphasizing more on the fully automatic weapons, explosives, armor and other things that only the military should have access to.
Gun casualties and incidents throughout the country have woken the public up from its ignorance and shown them the danger guns can pose to society (Martinez, 2013). While some people want a complete blanket ban on the ownership of guns, others wants an easier access to guns so that every person may look after their own security. Part of what makes the term gun control a very controversial topic is that it’s used in a ambiguous way that does not explain the details of the issue and the demands, apart from literally controlling guns. The two prominent sides of the debate are the groups who ask for liberal gun laws that make it easier for a person to procure guns and conversely, there are groups who want to repeal the second amendment. I personally am a strong believer that an “ideal society” should have no guns; nevertheless crime is a big problem to the citizens of our society and guns are necessary.
Gun Control Laws in America Firearms should not be restricted, nor should their accessories or capabilities. Placing laws that take away from our right to bear arms would only give negative effect on the safety of the general public and the amount of crimes committed. People need guns to protect themselves from the people who want to corrupt their lives by using guns, regardless of the law. Gun control laws vary from state to state. In the republic of California, some would say we have some of the worst laws and restrictions in the country.
One side to this ongoing argument is that all guns in the United States need to be banned. Many Americans feel this way, believing that, “violence is out of control. Guns are a major cause. They should all be banned- the sooner the better.” To be exact nearly three out of four Americans, 73%, believe that guns need to be under a lot more control. The second amendment says “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” (Bill of Rights).
Gun control is a controversial issue in United States. Gun control concerns with the government regulation of the use of guns and ownership by private citizens (Aitkens, 1992). People who think the United States needs gun control are mainly democrats; they believe that gun control would reduce the number of accidents related to the guns as well as the violences. However, some people oppose to gun control, and these people are mainly republicans, believe that gun control will not take guns away from the criminals or gangsters and in addition, it is against the law which gives the right of residents to bear arms. Gun is a very controversial issue in United States, because there are numerous reasons to support both sides on the issue.
Rights can have limitations especially once a gun related crime has been committed or a person is deemed mentally ill. In either of these cases, the right to keep and bear arms is legally removed and cannot be reversed based on current law. Citizens’ rights are assumed in tact under what is considered normal circumstances but can quickly be interpreted as a privilege if a person’s behavior or conduct violates the conditions that come with the second amendment of the right to keep or bear arms. Responsible gun ownership is a right and the second amendment assures American citizens to the right to keep and bear arms. The absence of any recent Supreme Court cases addressing the Second Amendment, as well as new arguments in the 1990s that a right to bear arms might exist in the penumbra of the Ninth or Tenth Amendments, seems to assure that the nature and scope of the right to bear arms will remain contentious in the United States (Chambers II,
Franklin D. Roosevelt’s solicitor general, Robert H. Jackson, said the Second Amendment grants people a right that “is not one which may be utilized for private purposes but only which exists where the arms are borne in the militia or some other military organization provided for by law and intended for the protection of the state.” The idea is that if we can restrict who can have guns and what they can be used for, then there will be less violence and gun related deaths. However, this is difficult to enforce because there are so many guns already out in the public. “There are close to 300 million privately owned firearms in the U.S. Even if congress passed a law banning the sale of firearms tomorrow- which violates the Second Amendment- it would be decades before the supply of guns significantly, especially considering that many guns are operational 100 years or more after they’re manufactured.” Criminals can easily get the guns from friends, or illegally from ones that are currently privately owned or they can get them from other countries. In conclusion, I am currently against gun control because I want to make sure that innocent citizens can have access to guns and be able to protect themselves against criminals when they need to.
