What is “the American Dream” and is it alive today? The American dream could just be a step away, or it could be something that may never be achieved. When we the people of America talk about the American dream, it changes just like it would if someone from an outside country would look at the American dream. A lot of people have a different outlook on the “American Dream”. Whether it be being economically stable on your own, or it be coming to America to enjoy the freedom we have to offer.
Both women seeming diverse idea of the American Dream is best reflected through their personality, actions, and conflicts. Firstly, the story started by holding the mother’s personal perceptions of the American Dream in the first paragraph. “My mother believed you could be anything you wanted to be in America. You could open a restaurant. You could work for the government and get good retirement.
America First America has always been seen as the hero’s of the world. In time of need poorer countries look to the United States for support and back up. Many countries are not as well off as we are. Dictatorship and war have destroyed many other great countries in our world. America has been lucky enough to look clean from the outside.
Recognizing her spirit and aptitude, the area Wal-Mart management team responsible for Betty’s store promoted Ms. Dukes to Customer Service Manager. This was a great achievement for Betty, as it placed her one step closer to her ideal objective, corporate management. Although five years had gone by before reaching this management accomplishment, Betty remained optimistic about the corporate possibilities. In 1999, Betty’s yearn for corporate management was faded as she was demoted from Customer Service Manager back to cashier. In addition to the demotion, Ms. Dukes also incurred a pay cut which brought economic challenges affecting her livelihood.

As a women in the 19th century, I would of choose to work in a factory. It was a chance for a women to demonstrate her skills and also to be part of the social circle outside of the house. She did have a salary which may not be as good or as high than the men but was of course a great help to the family and a privilege to her.By 1850, employers did have better economic improvements which benefits a women coming from a middle class.
I believe that as a citizen of America my responsibility is to enlighten the youth about how important education is, stick up for what is right, and having faith/bringing unity. As the people of American some of us have become lazy with the things we do, we have lost the true meaning of motivation and ambition. Another factor that led to some of her decisions came from the frugality of her mother and families all around the world. From her observations of economic conservation, Roddick decided to take a distinct, yet healthy approach toward her new retail shop. This fresh new look created new concepts such as refillable containers. The timing of Roddick could not have been better as the public were already starting to look “greener” (both in regards to companies and products). Roddick was known as the first to create a socially and environmentally responsible business.
For many, it was the first time they had worked outside the home and did so only from a sense of patriotic duty. After the war, some women continued to work, but many returned to the role of homemaker and nurturer. However, one by one, women saw other women finding satisfaction in outside work, enjoying the financial gains and still being able to maintain a home. Each time a woman made the decision to work outside the home and acted upon it, it opened the consciousness of other women to that role until now women are such an important part of the
For example, my friend dreams of owning her own bakery in the future. After graduating from high school, she took a break to work at a local bakery where she struggled and lost her job. As a result, she applied to Cordon Bleu and received the hands-on experience that she needed. She said “it was the best decision she has ever made,” because not only did she receive hands-on experience, but they also found her a job after graduation. So, students who want to “work with their hands” and gain experience quicker can look into trade school where they would be taught specific skills geared towards their ideal job.
When given the right information, single moms can succeed along with their peers. It’s good for single moms have a support systems. College is a rough scene and it’s not exactly as easy as everyone thinks. Support systems are there to help people when they need help, boost others motivation, and encourages them to never give up. Some may think that family is the only support system out there.
