Sports have been popular in the world for hundreds of years, their fun, intense, exciting, competitive and can determine who is the strongest, bravest and quickest, but were they always the same? Sports in the Elizabethan age were not as different as the sports we know and play today. For example Colf is the ancestor of Golf, they are both very alike. Sports that we all have come to know now, have all originated from ancestors. There were so many different sports played in the Elizabethan age, they were divided into two groups, team sports and individual sports. Team sports ranged from Bowls, similar to modern day pin bowling; Gameball, rough and violent football; Rounders, a simpler version of baseball; and the most popular, Hunting, which was a competition between hunting ferocious wild boars. Tennis now an extremely popular sport today was played back then too, the rules were far simpler, but the game was adored as much as it is today. Sports played a big role in entertainment. Elizabethan entertainment played a big role in people’s lives and was very important to them. Life expectancy was very low and mortality rates were very high due to common outbreaks of plagues. People loved entertainment especially when there was something to celebrate and be joyful about. Sports have been popular and loved for hundreds of years, they have changed drastically, but the main idea has still been the same and now has become apart of sports we love and play today.
