The Rights of Elderly People In today’s society, there are many people who believe that because, the elderly people have lived their life to the fullest, and so should the young people. For this reason, the young should receive the resources and care that is needed. The adoptions of ageist policies, which deny elderly people treatment because of their age, are not fair and discriminatory and should be against it. As a result in today’s society they predict that aging population will pose a big ethical and economic problem. (Hanson, 1994 pg.4-6) United States suspects that by the year 2050 their will be 15 million people over the age of 85. (Hacker.1976) Because of the increase of elderly people the cost to our society will be substantial. In 1990, United States spent 80 million dollars treating and caring for the patients with Alzheimer’s disease. (Collins, 1993 pg.219-20) People need to realize that it is not the elderly people fault for this sickness. They predict that by the year 2040 that 1.6 billion dollars will be spent on people falling and fracturing their hip. (Hacker, 1976) Because of the discrimination against people based on age, they are already being enforced in some parts of the medicine. People suggest that elderly people are close to the end of there life. That it would be useless to use resources on them. (Collins, 1993, pg.219-20) It has been suggested that young people are able to benefit from treatments, however physically disabled mentally of the elderly will not progress from the treatment. (Killner 1990, pg. 219-220)Yet, some of the elderly benefit the same as the young. For the elderly people the number of survivors that retrieve fully are the same number as the young. (Brandstetter, 1992, pg. 175-179) There are some elderly that may not accept that their getting old. However, there are young people in today’s society who cannot cope
