If a old person doesn’t have a family or is in a lot of pain their attitude towards life would be negative and maybe feeling suicidal. Ageism Ageism is while a person gets older with age, you can also tell they are getting older by appearance. They will also feel their
Edelman, P., O'Brien, C., Loftus, E., & Engel, R. (2010) Studies have shown that seniors that live in residential communities have better mental wellness than those that live alone. Edelman, P., O'Brien, C., Loftus, E., & Engel, R. (2010). The decline of physical or mental abilities is one reason a senior citizen may voluntarily or involuntarily move to a senior living community. In this case being around other seniors with similar health concerns can make the person feel less isolated as opposed to living with a relative that provides care. Often times seniors decide to live in residential communities to avoid being a burden on their children or other relatives.
For example, nearly 40 percent of the nation's 1,200 working federal judges have reached senior status and could retire. But, these senior judges are crucial to the justice system and, handling reduced caseloads, carry out nearly 20 percent of the federal judiciary's work. This fact is also consistent with the literature on cognitive aging, which shows that reasoning about complex matters relevant to daily life—what some call wisdom–shows no deterioration with age. Yet pervasive beliefs about age-related decline tend to outweigh beliefs about positive aging in our culture. Negative stereotypes can have harmful consequences for the quality of life of older adults and can also result in a major loss to society.
Encouraging older Americans to utilize their resources needs to reach them on a more intimate level than the general services that are being offered. Perhaps incentive and more services for caregivers may also allow older Americans to be exposed to existing services. A well-written policy does not always translate to well-funded, well-managed or well-executed programs. It seems that there have been adequate systems in place within the OAA they are just grossly underfunded. People are living longer and the population of these elders is increasing and cannot be properly executed with a diminishing budget.
The majority of the people voting for the age limit to drop to 18 are the people who are under 18 or who are 18. They feel that 18 year-olds are prepared to make responsible decisions about drinking (Amethyst Initiative). The Amethyst Initiative believes that lowering the drinking age will only make situations worse for society. But the fact is, these people are not thinking about the consequences and are only looking at the pleasure. “More than 1,700 college students in the U.S. are killed each year—about 4.65 a day—as a result of alcohol-related injuries” (The Marin Institute).
My thoughts on elderly drivers would be based on nothing more then the importance of safety on the roads. It would be quite difficult for me to strongly point my opinion, since my voice on the restrictions of senior citizen driving could easily be turned back on me in the long run. Sooner or later as long as we’re living, we will all eventually become older; so each and every one of us will have to face the scrutinizing pressures of society on whether or not elderly citizens should be allowed to drive. Not all people are alike; a 75-year-old man could be in top-fit shape driving without the slightest problem, while a 65-year-old woman could be suffering from poor health conditions that impairs her driving abilities. I feel that elderly people should not be allowed to drive under certain circumstances.
If current trends continue, the conditions will be unfavorable for the improvement of the population quality. Second, on the control, the birth control policy contributes to the acceleration of Chinese aging of people; the grant age pension will face great pressure. Since 2005, China's elderly people aged over 60 with one-tenth portion of the population, which means China has entered the aging society. Under the "4-2-1" family structure (4 means grandparents, 2 means parents, 1 means children), the children of each family will get married in 20 years. Then the elder they have to support will be 7 to 8.
There are not enough willing families to make up for the numerous amount of older children who need to be adopted. The process was simplified in hopes that more families would show interest. Whereas adoptions of toddlers and infants may take up to two years to complete everything, the adoption of an older child will be a much shorter experience. Another reason adopting an older child can be quick is that the parental rights of an older child’s birth parents have been removed by the time he is put up for adoption. Not having to worry about the birth parents parental rights allows the adoption process to be much smoother due to the fact that the case will not have to go through the court system for as long as an adoption of a young child.
Does this make them immature or lucky? Too many adults lose the ability to see the world through a child’s eyes; and this may be part of what causes some of the issues faced by adults. The older generation is indeed wise and has a lot to offer a middle aged person, or young adult as well as teenagers and adolescents. As we enter into late adulthood it is indeed vital to try and stay as healthy and as active as possible. This is important as this will help during the experiences and changes that life brings, some uncontrollable and unpredictable.
(We slowly start to loose our brain cells as we age beyond our 20’s) Familydoctor, (2013). This is described as age related cognitive decline not dementia, Dementia is two or more forms of symptoms that are difficult enough to affect a persons ability to perform their activities of daily living. At the moment there is no medical cure for dementia, although there are treatment and medication that focus on reducing the severity of the symptoms while slowing down the progression
