My thoughts on elderly drivers would be based on nothing more then the importance of safety on the roads. It would be quite difficult for me to strongly point my opinion, since my voice on the restrictions of senior citizen driving could easily be turned back on me in the long run. Sooner or later as long as we’re living, we will all eventually become older; so each and every one of us will have to face the scrutinizing pressures of society on whether or not elderly citizens should be allowed to drive. Not all people are alike; a 75-year-old man could be in top-fit shape driving without the slightest problem, while a 65-year-old woman could be suffering from poor health conditions that impairs her driving abilities. I feel that elderly people should not be allowed to drive under certain circumstances. If a person loses the ability to properly operate a motor vehicle based on the functions of their reflexes, memory, visual acuity, flexibility and the ability to focus that person should not be allowed to drive on the open road; putting innocent lives at risk. Having a license to drive would be considered a privilege; and it should not be taken advantage of or abused. I believe its commonly recognized in drivers that turns 70, risk increases greatly and grows higher after turning 85. Elderly drivers are at higher risk of injury and death when involved in a crash because they are least likely to withstand trauma. Most elderly drivers try to practice as much safety on the road as possible. They want to find ways to drive safe and drive as long as possible. Once I come to the point in my life where I feel that I would be too old to drive, I would not want my freedom taken away from me either; becoming a dependent person not able to get around on my own. I would also want to drive myself to wherever I please for as long as I could. I would not agree with others that
