Soon other major German ports like Kiel and Hamburg were under the control of the navy. This made the Prince and Kaiser worry that a revolution might occur and so they decide to abdicate Kaiser and Prince leaving the control of Germany in Friedrich Elbert. This means the Government had more of a control over Germany and could make changes to keep the people happy and prevent revolution. Moreover in the October reform Ludendorff realised that Germany was loosing the war and so he wanted to shift the blame from the army government and land owners and at the same time get the best possible peace terms. Germany terns from autocracy to constitutional monarchy as the blame would be on the newly formed government the Reichstag.
They had known Serbia would reject the ultimatum. So on the 28th of July 1914 Austria-Hungary confidently declared war on Serbia with Germany’s full backing. Russia was allied with Serbia so began mobilising its troops to help Serbia. On the 1st of August Germany declared war on Russia. If it hadn’t been for Germany, Austria-Hungary would not have been confident enough to start a war with Serbia and Russia.
His non-aggression pact with the USSR was a fraud. Hitler's "Mein Kampf" and the Hossbach Memorandum of 1937 where Hitler told his generals that he would attack France by 1944 at the latest, are qoted as evidence for this view. Other historians claim that appeasement was equally to blame. Had France challenged Hitler earlier, in 1936 and sent a force into the Rhineland to confront Hitler's invading troops, Hitler would have backed off. Alan Bullock ("Hitler, a Biography," p. 171), states that Hitler's successes and the absence of
Why did war break out in the summer of 1914? War broke out in the summer of 1914 due to an international system of alliances which divided the European super powers into two opposing sides under the false impression of rival aggression. One small and inevitable trigger would test these alliances. The Prussian victory over France in 1870 led to the creation of the German Empire. A German diplomat named Bismarck knew that Germany’s neighbouring European Powers’ reaction would be to unite against their new empire.
* He believed Germans belonged to the master race. (Aryan race) * He called the men who signed the Versailles Treaty traitors – November criminals * Hitler wanted to build a Third Reich and to expand Germany’s territories eastward to create living space lebensraum. * He wanted all Germans to be united in one country. Hitler comes to power After the 1st world war, Germany had a democratic government (Weimar republic). But Germans blamed it for signing the Versailles treaty and for hunger and unemployment.
The feeling swept especially throughout Britain that the Treaty of Versailles had been too harsh, and Germany should be able to make some amendments to its more extreme elements. The British were not willing to go to war, nor prepared. However Appeasement regardless of the reason failed as it only encouraged Hitler. The result of the appeasement policy was that Britain and France did nothing more than diplomatically protest when Hitler violated the peace treaty. Hitler then announced to the world he was following a policy of re armnent in March 1935 by largely increased military manpower though conscription and announcing the creation of the Luftwaffe of 2500 planes.
The pact was the final cause of war as Hitler could now invade Poland without any interference from Stalin. Britain and France had declared war on Germany as they guaranteed Poland’s independence. However, the policy of appeasement in the 1930’s also played a big role in causing the Second World War. Appeasement had led Hitler to believe that Britain and France were weak. Britain and France gave Germany the Rhineland, the Sudetenland and they were allowed to have an Anschluss with Austria.
Basel Al-Johani 11/02/2013 Battles Mrs. Smart Battles Homer’s Illiad, Trojan War, is a story about war and about the battles fought when one person or nation feels that another has done a bad deed to them, which is still relevant today. On June 28th, 1914, World War 1 started because of the assassination of the Austrian President. Also, on September 1, 1939, World War 2 started because of the invasion of Poland by Germany. Last but not least, The Afghanistan Civil War in 2001 started because of the invasion in New York by the Al-Qaeda forces. These three wars are all an example of how a nation goes to war because the other nation did a bad deed to them.
It could be argued that the Alliance System did not make a war inevitable however, there are many points that suggest that the Alliance System did indeed pave the way that led to World War 1. Because within 4 years after the alliance formation, Germany mobilized nine dreadnoughts, and the arms race started between all the European countries, each country aimed to have the strongest navy. William 2nd’s reaction with issuing a vigorous foreign policy in order to destroy cohesion among the Triple Entente powers caused a series of international crisis and contributed to the outbreak of war. The Alliance System also brought the conflict between two countries belonging to different alliances, the other powers would be drawn into war and this is essentially
Chamberlain let Hitler build up the German armed force although that was contravention of Treaty of Versailles. Chamberlain ignored Germany troops in Rhineland in March 1936 violating the same treaty. This was the beginning of appeasement policy. In 1938 March, Hitler annexed Austria, as known as ‘Anschluss’, unite all German-speaking people in one ‘Greater Germany’. Hitler's Anschluss referendum showed Hitler that Britain were "wimps" trying to appease Hitler.
