He is later accompanied by his cousin Matt (Alex Russel) and a high school acquaintance Steve (Michael B. Jordan) in receiving telekinetic abilities. However the “wimpy boy gets superpowers, wimpy boy uses superpowers to fight crime” gimmick does not come into play in Chronicle. In fact the cliché superhero storyline never comes into play, and what we are is left with is a depiction of what a group of high school guys would do if they did gain miraculous abilities. They'd have fun. The tagline on the poster for Chronicle reads, “Boys Will Be Boys”- a trite yet descriptive one-liner that tells you most of what you need to know.
He changes from a self-centered boy into a patriotic young man. Another main character in the book is Rab Silsbee. He is a sixteen year old boy who becomes Mayorak 2 Johnny’s model and guide. Rab is a very friendly young man who is nonjudgmental and open-minded. Because his parents died, Rab works for his Uncle Lorne, a Whig, at the Boston Observer, a local newspaper.
Golding’s book Lord of the Flies is a warped representation of mankind (or should I say kidkind) and Ralph is depicted as the sometimes flawed but never-the-less good hearted leader who brings his group to triumph. Ralph is a boy of twelve years – he is fair, tall, handsome, healthy and vigorous. His look is said to be that of the typical blonde haired blue eyed boy. He is said to no longer display the obvious belly of childhood and what's more he is made to be ‘a boxer’. (Quotes – ‘The boy with fair hair lowered himself down the last few feet of rock’ ‘he was old enough to have lost the prominent belly of childhood’ ‘he might make a boxer’) Prior to arriving on the island, it is known that he was a spoilt young man coming from the family of a privileged naval commander.
Willy’s beliefs and actions stem from his fear of being alone. His desires to be well-liked lead him to raise his sons to be ideal figures and loyal companions – something he never had in his early days. When speaking to Howard Wagner about his career origins, he replies that, “Selling was the greatest career a man could want. Cause what could be more satisfying then to be able to go, at the age of eighty-four, into twenty or thirty different cities, and pick up a phone, and be remembered and loved and helped by so many different people?” He speaks of Dave Singleman, a salesman who dies on the job, supposedly to the great melancholia of his peers. In Willy’s eyes, he is already immortalized, a martyr who serves as the spokesman for a noble cause.
At the start of the novel Stanley is fat and has no friends, however when he goes to the Camp Green lake he gets friends, and he also digs lots of holes. How does Miller present Joe Keller as a tragic hero In All My Sons? Joe Keller is a man who loves and values his family very much and has sacrificed everything, including his honour, in his struggle to make his family prosperous. He is a self-made business man, who in spite of his humble beginning, has managed to work his way up in the business world and become a successful manufacturer. Joe perfectly fits into the category of tragic hero. Unlike Greek plays, where main characters were kings and nobles for they were thought to embody the whole community, modern tragedies present an average leader of a family, neither completely good nor completely evil, whose mistake leads to his self-destruction.
