“I want a wife who will keep my clothes clean, ironed, mended, replaced when need be, and who will see to it that my personal things are kept in their proper place so that I can find what I need the minute I need it.” (para. 4). Most of the essay shows how husbands are demanding when it comes to taking care of the family. The writer is trying to get a point across that wives are expected to a whole lot of things perfectly but are not giving the due appreciation. The writer makes her readers aware that she knows what she is talking about in the early parts of the essay because she has experienced it herself.
I Want a Wife by: Judy Brady Page 539, Exploring the Text Questions 1,2,5,7 1. In the opening paragraph, Brady sets the tone for the essay by her first paragraph “I belong to that classification of people known as wives. I am A Wife. And, not altogether incidentally, I am a mother”. In this paragraph, Brady creates a humorous, sarcastic tone in her essay.
Normally when reading the title of this piece you would think that “Why I Want a Wife” would somehow be related to a single bachelor, male or female. We soon learn that the narrator is female, and is also currently a wife in a stable relationship. After taking in an old friend that had been victim to divorce with his wife, she then suddenly has an epiphany, that she too would like a wife. When I read this line I thought that this was going to be a piece about a lesbian woman in today’s society looking for a wife. As I continued reading I became more intrigued as to why the twists and turns in the story were taking me where they were.
He was sure though, that his mom always preferred that he be at home, no matter who was to tag along. He also knew – they would be well fed. “Will your mom make breakfast burritos?” Will asked. “You know she will, Will.” Garrison answered. They both chuckled at their pun.
Men and women share equal duties as a couple, and as parents. The roles have changed since the seventies. Women are the breadwinners today while men stay at home and perform daily duties like washing clothes, caring for the children and preparing dinner. This essay proves to be a thing of the past. The needy things Brady talks about are unrealistic and upsetting.
All in all education should be something people should take advantage of. The value of family was very important to Puritans in the 1600’s. I have this value because I hold my family very near to my heart. For example I visit my eighty-four year old grandmother everyday after school and get her groceries or take her places she needs to go. I also help out my parents that both work by taking care of the house and making dinner so they can relax when they get home from work.
Her main positions are the living room, bedroom, and kitchen. Linda lives with her husband Willy. Happy, their son lives at their house also, while Biff came back home to visit. Linda was focused in becoming the best "housewife" she could be. She took accountability and care for her family and was concerned both with how their family managed themselves as well as how they appeared to their neighbors and other peers.
But it grieved my grandmother. In one sense, her work was invalidated as a stay-at-home wife and mother, while in another sense, it resonated with her discontent. Today, at this 50 year anniversary mark, of the book’s original publishing ,women still wrestle with issues that Friedan broached in her writings and in particular “ The Feminine Mystique”. The struggle, as I see it, is not necessarily outside situational influences, even though we have a way to go in improving that. The struggle lies inside individual women themselves; those still influenced by a societal mindset that hasn’t caught up with this movement.
Men need help and so do women; this truth lays the foundation for being able to celebrate differences and embrace positives that will assist in living a fuller life (McKinney Hammond 51). Godly women are to help (help mate) their husbands stay in place: Spiritually by praying (continual communication with God), fasting, applying the Word of God in her life and worshipping in truth; naturally by tending the house, him (sexually) and children. When a man’s house is in order, he is motivated to be the provider that is needed. Keep the house clean: however you can. If working, a student, etc.
We can know when Narji see her father as an employer to her maid has a relationship with her father. Then in Her, a woman is a victim from her husband, because her husband marry with another woman.
