“Date Rape” is a harsh and cruel reality in today’s world. Date rape is defined to be sexual intercourse by the victims. Date rape is when a male or female is forced into sexual intercourse or actions by an acquaintance in this case, with whom they do not know very well. Violators can use a variety of tools in order to lure a victim into engaging in sexual intercourse such as drugs, threats or even black mail. The idea of forcing sexual intercourse upon a person is a violation to one’s physical and mental entities, and can be very traumatic for the individual.
A Clockwork Orange is about one teenage boy named Alex whose goal in life was to mainly cause trouble. He was in a “gang”, so to say, with his three other friends and they would go around either create adultery by raping women in their homes or going to the local stores and wrecking up the place. When Alex was finally stabbed in the back by his so called “friends” he was sent to jail for murdering a woman. While spending time in jail he learned of a therapy technique that was looking for candidates for testing and would initially take time off the prison sentence for participating. Alex was initially chosen and soon learned that this “therapy” was more like torture and he was forced to watch countless hours of gruesome crimes, some that he committed himself.
Another example in Candide of an imperfect world is when Cunegonde got raped. She also got enslaved to several men that used her as their mistress. These acts of the men were horrific and prove that the world is not perfect. Also, the Lisbon Earthquake is another other example of an imperfect world. This earthquake symbolized God’s cruelty to the people.
Rapists in Today’s Society “The offence of forcing a person, especially a woman, to submit to a sexual intercourse against that person’s will” (Rape 2 of 3). The previous statement is the definition of rape, a crime committed quite often in today’s society. This crime is committed by a person called a rapist. Rapists perform this crime on victims (Rapist 1 of 2). Victims are people who suffer from a destructive or injurious action or agency.
Ironically, it was this passion of painting that led to her passion (suffering) surrounding her rape. A man named Agostino, who worked with her father, raped her. He was supposed to be teaching her technique and brush strokes but instead, he selfishly took advantage of an eighteen-year-old girl who would never be the same. Agostino was sent to trial but really it was Artemisia who was being punished and interrogated. She endured immense humiliation in the courtroom while her father just stood by and witnessed everything.
Everything seems to be in Alex’s favor until his gang grows tired of his tyranny, and decides to trick him, landing him in prison after murdering a widowed cat lady. After serving a partial jail sentence, Alex is let out for what he comes to know as the “Ludovico Technique” which using nauseating drugs and overly violent films, conditions Alex against his violent nature. The novel, which was later adapted into a film by Stanley Kubrick, became a controversial subject of debate for many years, as several copycat crimes followed its release. According to fiction writer Joseph Aisenberg; “a woman was raped by assailants performing “Singing In the Rain”; boy gangs marauded around England dressed as the droogs; Arthur Bremmer, who shot George Wallace, reported in his diary having watched the movie and been inspired to get Wallace all through it” (Aisenberg, 3). The existence of violence in the novel is paralleled by an immersion of fine art and culture, but is severely limited due to the narration style of the story.
In prison, he endured getting whipped by the guard. He assumed Mercedes was part of the plot to frame him since she married Fernand. He got his revenge at the end. He killed Fernand and Dangulars. He put the Chief prosecutor in jail.
Nowadays, one in five women has reported experiencing rape. In many cases the victims of rape are accused of “asking for it” based on looking at the clothes they had on, or they are blamed for lying and “seeking attention.” This may even cause internalized cognitive dissonance where the victim may have contradicting thoughts and blame themselves for example having worn revealing clothing or having gone to a bar at night. Rape culture refers to a culture in which men are encouraged to “score” or “pick-up” as many women as possible. This not only makes women look like a game to be won but it is also a reason why forced sexual acts are committed so that men can feel a sense of “manhood.” This culture encourages girls to be submissive and it teaches them that they should keep quiet. Rape has become acceptable in our society, and very rarely is someone who is pressed with rape charges actually convicted.
