The Count of Monte Cristo Revenge and Forgiveness are two of the many themes in the film, “The Count of Monte Cristo.” Of course, when people caused people pain and suffering they’d want revenge. They feel like revenge is the answer to give to the people that pained them. Forgiveness may be a hard thing to do but it means letting go of the many memories that pained them .It human nature. There are reasons why people forgive, one reason can be misunderstanding. They got involved because the other party involved them into a situation. There are situations of forgiveness and revenge in the movie, “The Count of Monte Cristo.” The protagonist – Edmond Dantes (Count of Monte Cristo) – is hungry for revenge. He been in prison for approximately 13 years for something he did not do. He got framed by his best friend – Fernand, Chief Prosecutor, and Dangulars. In prison, he endured getting whipped by the guard. He assumed Mercedes was part of the plot to frame him since she married Fernand. He got his revenge at the end. He killed Fernand and Dangulars. He put the Chief prosecutor in jail. The thing is by killing Fernand and Dangulars they won’t receive the pain and suffering Edmond felt. By killing them it won’t take away the pain and suffering he has been through. Forgiveness may be hard to give. It depends on the situation and the people. It people repent, feel guilty, or they are innocent, obviously you’d want to forgive them. Fernand and Dangular didn’t show their sorry, so of course Edmond didn’t forgive them. Mercedes is innocent in the movie. She only married Fernand because she was pregnant with Edmond’s son. In her heart she still loved Edmond. Edmond forgave Mercedes because she proved she still loves Edmond by wearing the string on her finger. Edmond proved she forgave her by making love with her. Forgiving also means that they’ve decided to be happy
