The Initial consultation is so important because it is the most effective platform for communication and trust to be gained between practitioner and client. This ensures that the client has the best chance of having a successful outcome to the treatment they will receive. The relationship between a client and a hypnotherapist starts from the first moment of contact, the environment that they meet, and the conversation that follows all play a vital role in helping the client to feel confident that they can trust the hypnotherapist and feel positive in how they can be helped. For the hypnotherapist the initial consultation is all about gathering information, exploring the client’s history and most importantly deciding on an ethical level ‘can I treat this person?’ So let’s take a look at each aspect of what the initial consultation entails and how each in turn takes place within the first meeting.
I believe that Person-Centred Therapy offers the therapist many great tools to treat the client successfully, but at the same time am convinced that this approach on its own will not suit all clients but will work extremely well in combination with other types of therapy. Rogers identified core conditions for changes in clients to happen, the first of these being that there needs to be a relationship between the client and therapist in which the client shows certain vulnerabilities or incongruence. The therapist on the other hand will show complete genuineness and will not hide behind the role of a professional. He should be real and able to express his feelings genuinely and act on their life’s experiences with relevant self disclosures. The therapist should hide nothing and the client should be able to see through her.
A person's preferences and modalities are not always stable and can change in order to a situation. This is why the induction has to be flexible and by trying to get an idea of which modality our clients prefer, it will help them to feel more comfortable. We use all of our senses in different situations but all of us will have a favourite one of which we are more comfortable although it is beneficial to use all the senses when trying to build a safe and comfortable space for a client. A compounding combination of all modalities is far more effective to achieve a deep hypnotic state. Our brain represents experiences received from all our senses and different parts of our brain have been designated to our senses so we have a visual cortex, an auditory cortex, an kinaesthetic cortex,an olfactory cortex, an gustatory cortex and auditory digital cortex.
Stating that the client was the expert and recognising that their condition improved when the counselling relationship was conducted on an even keel. This was in contrast to the predominantly psychodynamic approach generally used at that time. Rogers believed that all people were good and want to be the best that they can be, he stated that ‘each person is motivated by an actualising tendency, a force that drives a person (sic) to reach their maximum potential, physically, spiritually and emotionally. ‘ "Www.goodtherapy.org/person_centered." * They come from different cultural backgrounds and not have the same upbringings. These factors have provided us with different outlooks, values and perspectives. There are many techniques that we use to fit the right language to suit the person’s personality as well as their individuality. For the client to relax, its necessity that a hypnotic induction must always have the use of positive words and feelings, such as "you are more relaxed than you ever felt before". Gives out the positive vibe the client needs to make them comfortable.
ERT: “Enhanced Rogerian Therapy” Most helping professionals know that we can do a lot of good, and we can’t do any harm, through the application of Rogerian Counselling—also called Client-Centred, Person-Centred or Humanistic Counselling. This can be read about elsewhere in books by Carl Rogers and by advocates of his approach, but it basically consists of empathetically helping the client to gain as much clarity as possible about his current world-view
They may feel pressured to keep up and not really take things in. Tutors may need to find a suitable, cheaper alternative, however, this may not be easy and will they arrive in time, if ordering, for the course to start. The environment itself also needs to be considered. Tutors in a prison setting for example may not be able to use their own laptops and memory sticks. There will also be tighter restrictions with regards to learners using computers embedding learning and strict policies regarding leaving your own unattended.
Discussion Using social and spiritual values as a motivational lever is very powerful as they are both hard to deny and also give people an uplifting sense of being connected to a higher purpose, thus playing to the need for a sense of meaning andidentity. Ideals are higher in Maslow's Hierarchy, which does imply that lower concerns such as health and security must be reasonably safe before people will pay serious attention to the higher possibilities.
