You can’t take it with you when you die If it is true that wealth isn’t all that it is cracked up to be, and money cannot buy happiness, then why does it seem that that’s all anyone strives for? In The Great Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan abandons the love of her life due to his lack of financial success, and Jay Gatsby risks everything he has to become rich. The means by which they attain their success are more than questionable and unethical, yet it is impossible to think that the lifestyle their money brings is completely undesirable. In The Great Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan married wealthy Tom Buchanan instead of then poor Jay Gatsby because to her, it was more important that she come into a family with money than live a life where she would be truly in love. She decided that although she felt strongly for Gatsby, she needed to maintain her wealth in order to be happy in life. As a teenager ready to pick a college, it is important to think whether it is more important to attend the school with a better reputation, one that claims it can ensure economic fortitude, or go to the school at which I would be the most happy. There is not one amount of money, family bloodline, object, or university that can guarantee that one will be able to achieve the goals that they have set out for themselves. If one wants to become a billionaire and they truly believe that that is what is going to make them successful, only they can make that happen or inhibit them from ever reaching that benchmark. It is up to the individual to recognize what their goals are, how they want to accomplish them, and have the effort to carry them out.
